Which of these surprised you the most? Or if you’re Aussie, what would you add to the list? Let me know below! 🇦🇺👇

Magpies warbling at the beginning of day is the most beautiful sound and the best way to start your day 😊

"Slip, slop, slap" from the sun smart campaign = "slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat". Now they've added Seek (shade) and Slide (sunglasses) to the saying. And you're right - this is so important. Skin cancer can be deadly.

The Aussies and Kiwis like and respect each other’s country very much we just don’t tell each other 🤭

Back in the day there was a joke going around after a few American tourists had ended up as croc food. "How do you separate two crocodiles? Give them a yank".

Some pointers for magpies: if you feed them, they will not swoop you. They have incredible memories and will remember if you right or wrong them.

Regarding Magpies - Carry a small bag of dry puppy food with you. If there are magpies swooping toss some of the puppy food on the ground and they will stop and check it out. Once they know you are friendly you will never have trouble, from that magpie, again. It really works.

No slip slop slap means "slip on a shirt, slop on sunscreen, and slap on a hat" but close enough😂

As an Australian, actually an Australasian, having lived in PNG and New Zealand, I find your videos help me reflect on things that perhaps I take for granted. Having widely traveled I find when I return I have more open eyes as I return with a vigilant look at my own home. However it fades in a few weeks. Watching your videos help me return to that open mind. Thanks

Hi Sam, I am a Aussie, I am so happy how you keep referring to how our sun light will damage you. It is more dangerous than our animals. I saw a European with sunburn that bad they were hospitalised. She was in so much distress.

Tip from a aussie about magpies, they recognise faces really really well so when its not spring and they dont have all their babies feed em your little vege scraps and theyll love you, had some magpies walk up to me and walk next to me begging for scraps like a lil puppy

Don’t leave your litter on the beaches or in parks .. take it with and dispose properly. Also don’t play loud music in any public space.. use airbuds. Those are sure to get locals wound up

OMG. The "never say you prefer New Zealand" part was so accurate. I work with some English and Irish and Greek people, and the friggin' complaining never stops about what is better, or what we don't have, or "you Australians don't...." etc.!! I just want to slap them and say "go back if you're not happy living here!!!", but, I'm respectful, and I don't, and they won't go back, because it is so much better here than where they came from!! Hahaha!

I've never been swooped by a Magpie and I've lived in Magpie 'infested' areas for the past 70 years. The worst birds that I've dealt with are Noisy Mynah's. A few years ago, before two of my neighbours moved in with their cats, I had Magpies visit me every day for a little snack. The mother of the family would sometimes come inside and look for the puppy kibble herself in the laundry where I kept their supply. I never berated her and I'm pretty sure she knew that she was being cheeky and would stare at me as if to say "Just looking for something for the baby." She never panicked when I approached her and just waited patiently for a few more pieces of kibble. I miss them.

I do maintenance and grounds keeping at a school. I got swooped for the first time ever at age 45 last spring, when I had to rescue two small magpie chicks after their nest was blown out of a tree on school grounds on a windy day. Their parents were not happy! But in the last few months I've been talking to them and their offspring whenever I can and now I'm their bro.

To simplify the rip currents thing (this is what we get taught as young as six or seven, depending on where you live)
1. Don't panic, stay afloat
2. Raise your hand and try to signal to the lifeguardds (if on a patrolled beach), OR
3. Swim parallel to the shore until you're in an area where waves can take you back in

Spotting rips isn't impossible for newbies, a pretty good rule of thumb we were taught was to look for gaps between the waves, perpendicular to the shore. Also look for areas where the waves aren't cresting at all, or where the water looks darker. These can all indicate rips.

“SLIP, SLOP, SLAP” was an anti cancer campaign from back in 1981. It was so successful it’s still used today.
A jingle:
SLIP on a shirt, SLOP on sunscreen & SLAP on a hat.

J-Walked non stop in Brisbane City for 40 years, never once got fined. Definitely don’t do it at intersections you are not familiar with though, or while at all distracted. And pay attention to people ignoring the dark amber lights….

Also technically it’s only illegal when close (within 20m) to a traffic light or crossing.

6:14 Hey we have a similar tradition - if you see them you say "F off Maggie not today!"
Also if you make eye contact (or feed them) they are less likely to attack so greeting them could actually make you luckier or at least less painful.
