The Land of Many Perfumes (女兒國) is a colourful Shaw Brothers fantasy adventure inspired by the timeless Journey to the West. Continuing their pilgrimage in search of Buddhist scriptures, the Monk, Monkey King, Pigsy, and Sandy arrive in the mysterious Kingdom of Women, a realm inhabited entirely by women where an enchanted spring allows its people to bear daughters without men. Their journey soon becomes complicated when the kingdom’s ruler takes an interest in the visiting monk, while sinister supernatural forces plot to seize him for themselves.

Directed by Ho Meng-hua (何夢華), The Land of Many Perfumes combines fantasy, comedy, music, elaborate costumes, and magical adventure in the lavish style of Shaw Brothers’ celebrated Journey to the West adaptations. Starring Fang Ying (方盈), Li Hsiang-chun (李香君), and Ho Fan (何藩), the film transforms the legendary tale into a vibrant spectacle filled with mischievous spirits, romantic complications, and imaginative fantasy. Meticulously restored by Celestial Pictures, this high-stakes tale highlights the intense drama, sharp storytelling, and stunning visuals that define Shaw Brothers cinema.
