Lady Jade Locket (連瑣) is an atmospheric Shaw Brothers supernatural romance where love reaches beyond the boundary between life and death. A young man seeking refuge finds himself drawn to the mysterious spirit of the beautiful Lian Suo, who died years earlier following a tragedy involving her father. As their nightly encounters deepen into an impossible romance, he discovers that the ghostly woman is closely connected to the family—and to the future—that awaits him in the world of the living.

Directed by Yen Chun (嚴俊) and adapted from Pu Songling’s celebrated Strange Tales from a Chinese Studio, Lady Jade Locket blends romance, ghostly fantasy, period drama, and tragedy with the elegant visual style of 1960s Shaw Brothers cinema. Li Li-hua (李麗華) takes the unusual role of the young male scholar, while Li Ching (李菁) plays the haunting Lian Suo and her sister. Meticulously restored by Celestial Pictures, this high-stakes tale highlights the intense drama, sharp storytelling, and stunning visuals that define Shaw Brothers cinema. With its dreamlike atmosphere and tale of love transcending death, the film remains a distinctive entry in the studio’s supernatural period dramas.
