So, yes and no about genestealer cults at the end. Yes, there are those within genestealer cults that worship tyranids, but  most of the members don't know their cult is in fact tyranids, or even xenos. Rather, they see the cult as a rebellion against the local government.

Genestealers are also known to defend their hive cities from other xenos. So, it's not at all uncommon for members of GSC to form close bonds with non-GSC.

Also, think of it tactfully. It would be far easier for a GSC to infect a planet if refugees don't even know what they truly are.

So, in this episode, we can see multiple forms of how GSC infiltrate. The priest at the end clearly knows what they are. But the mother might not know what she is or what her child is. We saw that she sees her child as a normal human. So it's very possible she has no idea that she is bringing the next generation of GSC to the next planet. But the abbot, clearly not GSC, sees it as a baby pure strain.

GSCs are used not only to act as psychic beacons to the tyranids, basically telling them which planets have lots of biomass. They are also used to weaken major population centers by creating uprisings and rebellions against local governments.

The Commisar at the end wasn't the hero we wanted, but the hero we needed...

The clarification about the hive fleets at the end really helps me understand why they're not happy about seeing the Tyranids.

I already got suspicious when the father knew a lieutenant as a "friend".

This is an absolute master class of storytelling. The Empire first comes off as the unapologetic evil tyranny, gunning people down, keeping them locked up. It's so easy to sympathise with the citizens trying to get through, one is absolutely rooting for them. Then you realise at the very end... the Imperial authorities are fighting a losing battle against a Genestealer Cult uprising and a Tyranid hive fleet invasion. And all the brutality immediately becomes pretty much completely justified, as humanity on the planet faces annihilation.

Great stuff.

I don’t know where I heard this, but I thought it was almost like a mind control. That the genestealer makes the cults believe it’s a god. Then when the hive gets there, they disconnect this psychic link. Then the cultist realize the horror.

Seeing a counterpoint notification is the highlight of my day

To answer one of your questions one of the reason gene stealers were trying to escape is because two thing often happen with tyranid invasions is that sometimes tyranids will actually allow cult members to live and leave the planet to spread their influence to new planets that could be another reason

That lore went a lot deeper than expected

The first time watching this episode, that plot twist was unexpected. Watching it for a second time one realises the horror of it all.

The Tyranids represent Warhammer's biggest plot hole. They are simply far too resourceful and powerful for the setting. The Tyranids are a species that should never suffer defeats at the hands of the Imperium's war machine.  GW created one of, if not THE most, unstoppable forces in all of fiction. The Imperium should not be able to stand against, resist or defeat a Hive fleet. GW really wrote themselves into a corner with the Tyranids for they introduced an enemy that , for all intents and purposes, should never lose.

Imagine while they are doing that you can hear the ship they were on about to dock and they get greeted by a space marine squad XD... instant bolter shots to the heads lol

I like when the Licturd sayed "Its liking Time!" and turdet all over the place.

20:52 I suppose since the winning fleet can reclaim the biomass of the defeated fleet there is no loss of resources for the Tyranids.

We reached the point where advertizing for fragging brushes is generated by AI

I actually like the Tyranids as a faction; if it weren't for the Armies of Chaos, the Galaxy would burn from Human vs Bug warfrare rather than a constant soul magic.

That commissar was definitely more lenient than most, a more extreme commissar would have immediately executed the lieutenant for desertion and the family most likely, this commissar gave the lieutenant an opportunity to explain himself and benefit of the doubt despite his suspicions from the start, that is a commissar that does his job properly

When I saw this episode I loved it especially at the end with the Genestealer Cult revelation. That I yelled out NO, NO WAY, GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE

They create a specie that constantly evolve while having almost unlimited resource to do so in a few days.
The Imperium have little to no improvement on its technology and tactics.
How some planetary sieges that last for years are able to hold and win is beyond me.

I appreciate your commentary so much. It gives my clueless ass so much context. Thank you
