What's better? Working in the U.S. or in Europe? While the pay packages in the U.S. can put tears in your eyes, I would argue that the work life balance and overall quality of life makes Big Tech in Europe a no brainer. These are my thoughts as someone who move from Google U.S. to Google Ireland, Google UK and ultimately ended up in Germany!

Having recently made the move from NYC to big tech in London, I completely agree! You take a 50% pay cut, but the salary is still plenty to build savings on, and the work culture is much chiller with a real focus on family over hustle. Also, the tech scene in europe is surprisingly good, and most tech companies don't mind sponsoring visas. Unlike the U.S, where I got ghosted/auto-rejected due to my visa status, I’m constantly getting pinged by recruiters here. And being able to hop on a quick train to Paris or catch a 40 pound flight to Spain for the weekend is a huge plus :)

Great insights, love your take on this :) I think long term, it’s better to work in Europe (especially Munich) with a slightly lower salary, but if you’re in your 20s and are trying to become as successful as possible before „settling“, I think the US might be the better choice for that. And after having built that, you can always come back to Germany.
