After spending over five years sitting on the mezzanine at Car Audio & Security, it’s finally time to get my Volkswagen Golf Mk2 GTI 16V and Peugeot 205 GTI back where they belong... on the road!
In this episode of Raj’s Garage, I take a proper look around both cars, go through their history and specs, and talk about what made these two such iconic hot hatches.
Neither car is exactly standard either! We take a closer look at some of the modifications they’ve picked up over the years, including the 205’s 2.0L 16V Peugeot 306 GTI engine conversion and Stage 2 map, pushing around 195bhp.
After being parked up for so long, there’s plenty to check before either can properly return to the road. We go through the plans for recommissioning them, inspections, servicing, MOTs and finding out what five years of sitting still has done to them!
Will they need a straightforward recommissioning, or are we about to uncover a much bigger list of jobs? 👀

Had Ronal 17 wheels and modified by the then renown GTI Engineering, I thought I was the bees knees!
Few years later had a 309GTI and converted it to group N spec for road rallying. Wonderful memories. Enjoy both

Imo the 1.9, the VW GOLF 16V and the Renault Clio Williams was the holy trinity in hot hatches.
Shame about the golf, hopefully it’ll be ok after the fuel sender is fixed.
I watch a couple of channels who do barn finds, so many of them need fuel pumps etc, they don’t like being sat for years unused.
Look forward to the follow up on these.
Would have enjoyed seeing those two being cleaned up aswell, I know you aren’t a detailing channel though 😅
