So I own a 40 inch CRT now... and I brought it to a retro video game convention!

Yup I said I would do it, and so here we are! I've owned well over a hundred different CRT televisions over the years, but I've never been able to say that I own one of the absolute largest [regularly] available* CRTs ever manufactured.... until now!

*(Excluding THAT ONE, of course.)

Honestly even back when I first discovered this massive thing which sports a whopping 40 inch screen size abandoned in that dumpy old warehouse, I had this funny feeling in the back of my head that it would eventually be coming home with me. And so after letting three entire public sales go by with no one else willing to pull the trigger, at the closing bell on that third day with it still being unspoken for, I finally staked my claim.

I already knew that a screen size this large is already an uncommon sight within this hobby- there is only a baker's dozen of different 40 inch CRT models ever produced between two different companies- and so as a means to share my recent catch, I decided to risk injury even further and schlep this beast over to the Connecticut Convention Center in Hartford for the 2026 RetroWorld Expo!

Granted part of the reason behind this excursion was to simply figure out the logistics needed to lug this monster around to a show like this. But even after all of the strain and pain of accomplishing this task, the reception that this television received at the Expo from all of the gobsmacked attendees who were able to bask in the glow of its electrified phosphors was absolutely magical.

And here is my documentary on exactly that experience! This has been such a wild year for me as a CRT enthusiast, but what this specific Mitsubishi has put me through easily tops everything else I've done within this hobby during 2026. I hope you enjoy the fun as well!
