In this intentionally meandering video I reminisce about my old JVC portable stereo as well as the music genre it introduced me to. I also find out what's on my old tapes.

I want more of the cat. He doesn't have to wake up, just be there.

I have that exact model I bought in '89 at Circuit City in Bradenton, Florida and this vid prompted me to unearth it from a box and Damn, everything still works on it. Thanks for giving me the opportunity to revisit those tapes I created on it which I still also have. Great video !

…oh and btw, i would totally listen to 48 Spotify playlist called „Mat´s 1-48“ - best of OG Hip Hop 1988-1992.

It always amused me to see a middle aged bloke who looks like he would fit perfectly in an accounting office be into hip hop. It never occured to be that said bloke was a young man right in the "golden age of hip hop" and now it makes perfect sense. I remember having a similar experience with hip hop and late night radio when I was a teenager in the mid 90s

"The cat's gone, so I can sit here now" And you know who is in charge.

❤ Met Stu Allan many times at club nights over the years - lovely, lovely fella. One of the few DJs to combine successfully a life on a commercial radio station with nights mixing dance tunes. RIP Stu.

Thanks for the memories!

What a great story. Enjoyed you sharing this.
Great that you kept the tapes. 40 years later they still have your memories on them. They've held up perfect.
Other than photographs and books there's not much else that survives in our homes from that time.

When you said you could pick up one radio station far away I immediately said Key 103. Then when you said one show in particular, I said Stu Allan. My wife looked at me in disbelief like I was a mind reader.

Good bless Stu Allan and Key 103. Amazing times for us in the North West.

Love your cat! As a fellow cat owner, I understand all too well that when the cat is in your chair. That's not your chair until they leave.

You prefer the hip-hop, but that's definitely a house cat.

Every Hi-Fi requires a cat to pet while using it

WHEN you listen to the INTRO to a song and still hear: “12 degrees, clear skies, travel and news after this”

Just got a Tefi RC-1 in from Germany with a ton of cartridges thanks to your influence. It's in excellent shape for 1955.Replacing the broken mono ceramic cartridge with a new stereo one.
