This “Pick-Me” Girl Doesn’t Understand Bal...

🚨 LEAVE THESE PEOPLE ALONE (I'M WATCHING) 🚨

This took me a bit longer than it should have… primarily because I partied with my friends and then stayed at a casino late night. Yeah. I don’t make the wisest decision 24/7. Anyway, this video was a last minute one but it was solid! Next week… we might do commentary and horror stories.

Critical Failure is a series where we cover tea from across the TTRPG industry and beyond. Join me as I expose alleged scammers, scummy influencers, and general foolishness.

The funniest, yet saddest part about Shadiversity's AI defense is that his brother is Jazza. A popular ARTIST who is also on YouTube. There's a livestream where Shad was on with Jazza, and kept hyping up his AI slop while Jazza slowly died inside

A "Gatekept skill" fucking sends me. Brother, nothing is stopping you from learning.

"How many Calligraphers do you know?"

Literally more than the number of AI programmers I know.

@Tignya 1 year ago

Hearing this guy say that calligraphy has been phased out is what has finally gotten me to start practicing calligraphy.

As someone who's trying to get into voice acting, it's heavily infected that field too. 90% of the job offers I'm getting are "here's 180,000 words for you to read in a variety of accents so we can train our voiceover AI that'll replace people like you." Huxley warned us about this and we're still jumping in headfirst.

Imagine being Shadversity and being jealous of your talented brother Jazza.

Always funny to see folks try the whole "But now handicapped people can do art with ai!". My mom took care of a patient for years. Guy was paralyzed from the head down, he wasn't an artist before. Bro taught himself how to draw just with having a pen on a stick in his mouth. And he was freaking good at stuff like arizona wildlife. To imagine someone saying he should try ai instead just bugs the snot out of me. The AI bros don't care about handicapped artists until they can use them in an argument. Its stupid.

12:39 Treasure Planet is an excellent example of this. Incredible movie, you can see the passion and skill the creators put into it, but it completely bombed at the box office. Why? Because the Disney execs sent it out to die with no marketing and releasing it against freaking Harry Potter.

25:32 Oh Cripsy, he's not grifting: the mask just finally fell. There is a reason Jazza, his actual brother, no longer speaks with him

Aw man, get ready for Shad’s 2-hour-long response video on Knight’s Watch where he quote mines your video and rambles in circles to his uninterested cohost while he shows pictures of you wearing makeup and a wig in the thumbnail.

Calligraphy can still be done and look beautiful, but even digital font design is still a creative skill you can learn. Calligraphy didn’t die out, it changed with the times.

It's like saying, "I hate all these fitness influencers gatekeeping the body I want from me."

A writer, douche-pilled or otherwise, should know that artistic skills have to be earned just like any muscle. You can't just AI generate abs on yourself and call yourself in shape. Just like you can't AI generate an image and call yourself an artist.

Shad making AI pictures of his wife will never not be patheticly funny

I'm so confused at the AI bro thing about "gatekeeping" art like I constantly see artists teaching classes, posting tutorials, giving advice, and actively encouraging everyone to just Do An Art. I can only guess that "gatekeeping" translates to either "refusing to make art for me for free" or "making me have to work to acquire a skill." People seem to think that artistic talent is inherent but I have seen so many great artists who started out crap and learned their way to being awesome.

Also there are so many works of art that are technically imperfect (or plain bad) but are beloved because of the passion and charm behind them. Technical ability doesn't matter nearly as much as the person behind the art.

Honestly even sucking at art feels like a bigger accomplishment than just taking it from an ai. I would rather show my own vision poorly than go to a computer and get what's basically just some visualized form of the core concept without any of the depth.

@Azmeaiel 1 year ago

Theres no quicker way to get most people hit the 'dont show this channel' than being obvious AI slop.

@TheDuelManiacs 1 year ago

I mentioned to a coworker that I was writing a book for fun, he said to me "You should use AI." My question was "Why?"

@genericname2747 1 year ago

What? Calligraphers are still around! People will pay an arm and a leg to hire one, because they're so uncommon! They dominate the fancy invitation market!

@twilightgeneral777 1 year ago

I unsubscribed from Shadiversity ages ago. I used to enjoy his historical weaponry and fantasy content, but then he took a deep dive into far-right politics and AI generated garbage and I wanted nothing to do with it.

Getting your dreams shot down is. It can be soul crushing. For years I wanted to be a comic book artist. When I was in college, I took my art to comic con to show publishers (which is how they hired back then). I believe it was Top Cow who looked at my art and they told me that I was talentless and should quit drawing. It was crushing. I stopped drawing for a while. It was at a different comic con, much later, when I met John Romita Jr. We started talking, he asked to see my art, and he liked it. I'm not "The Greatest Artist of All Time!!!" But I'm decent. He got me drawing again. Now I'm mostly making art for fun, but the Top Cow comment has, briefly stopped even doing that.
