No idea why my favorite toxic paint art historian is going to talk to me about furries for an hour and a half.
But I am here for it!

An artist that has never met a furry? I don't believe you

You have probably met a furry and not known it.

I'm a furry, met thousands of people who don't know.

Why yes, I DID go through an Ancient Egypt phase as a child!

Regarding the sexual nature of the furry fandom and the sexual undertone of furry cons: Like one Furry youtuber and tiktoker (BarleyTheBurr) in the US said - who has non-furry friends across all manner of career fields - The sex stuff in conventions happens in every single convention known to man. And apparently the most kinky, the most sexual convention he has heard of? To which furry cons can't even hold a candle to? The MCDONALD'S MIDDLE MANAGERS CONVENTION. MCDONALD'S. MC. DONALD'S.

Ok, I never seen your content. This was the first, and I watched all 1 hour and 38 minutes of it.
It was very historically informative.
I’m a father of a 14 yo furry. She struggles with social anxiety and is extremely creative. But I knew nothing of this community apart from what she has told me.
I recently went to a furry con, the same one in Layton that you showed. I felt a bit anxious going there not knowing what to expect. That feeling went away with each interaction with the furries there. The absolute acceptance was beyond words. It seemed like there was nothing you could’ve done that would’ve been cringe worthy, even if you tried.
I met another parent there and we spoke about our experience (over some alcoholic beverages, of course) she told me her daughter loves attention at home and feels safe with her mask. I said it’s like she wants to be seen, but wants to be incognito in doing so. She exclaimed, Exactly!
I absolutely loved my experience there. I am going to partake in more furry cons, even without my daughter. Feeling no judgement and welcome to just be is very, I don’t know how to put it, safe I guess.
The con is like the island of misfit toys. Where separated, an abnormal toy would feel like a misfit, even unworthy to exist. But together, they show each other they are special, talented, and have a place to thrive. I mean, how could Anyone not want to be there?

"I have never met a furry"
Says the person who has DEFINITELY met a furry and just doesn't know it.

Pausing the video to say... I've been active in the fandom since 1996, and I absolutely cackled out loud at the Tony the Tiger joke. 🤣😆👏

Been a furry since i was 14, i joined a forum about a dragon game and asked someone about their dragon avatar, all they told me aligned with how i felt about my own body. I am nonbinary, got adhd, never felt good in my skin, was clinical dead once and it affected my life afterwards.
My fursona, an undead wolfmonster, represents my lifestory and who i wish to be and am working towards.

The community welcomed me and my weirdness with open arms, everyone should check it out. It might help discover a new side of yourself or just confirm who you already are.

"That one chick from Treasure Planet"
The sheer disrespect towards Captain Amelia I swear

I broke up with a woman once because she told me she would disown her own child if they turned out to be a furry. I pressed her that she must be joking and didn’t really mean it, she was 100% serious. I have no interest in Furry stuff myself, but it just seemed so needlessly cruel, not to mention immature. I couldn’t get past it knowing that was type of person she was.

It's not that furry is sexual - rather, humans are sexual, and furry is a community that is honest and accepting about it.

these videos always feel like the silliest business meeting

thanks for using your platform for good! Fun talking with you ^^

CSI got me into furry as well. When I was 10 I had already been watching CSI most weeks with my mother, and that was the first episode where she was like "Cover your ears. Don't look" during the infamous yiff pile scene. I watched the re-run in my room at like 10pm when I was supposed to be sleeping, with the volume on 3. Funnily enough, I was almost entirely like "Whoa! That white wolf character looks super cool. This is a thing? People can do this?"

Lumping the asexuals in with the non nsfw crowd was probably the greatest statistical error in the study lol

As a new subscriber and a furry, this thumbnail popping into my feed gave me quite a fright. Thank you for your kindness in how you approached the community (and your puns 💜)

The furry community was never meant to become fully mainstream. Its anthropomorphism, eroticism, queerness, wildness, and flexible, autonomy-centered boundaries have always been part of its character... not the whole of it, but part of its pulse. Those elements also help protect it from being sanitized, commercialized, or absorbed into conventional culture. Its alienation is a feature, not a bug: it helps preserve the community as a sanctuary for people who are othered or do not fit comfortably elsewhere.

I was concerned by the word “Debunking” in the thumbnail  for a split second, then immediately remembered you’re cool and a decent person who wouldn’t pull a Fetterman on your audience
