My Italian great uncle used to make the Italian cookies for us every Christmas. He would do half of the dough plain and then half of it colored red, then he would roll them out into logs and intertwine the two colors to make candy cane cookies. I have great memories of this.

If only I'd watched this earlier... i could've had time to make the almond wreath cookies for tomorrow... I'll just have to stay up later than usual tonight. Thankfully, I already have all of the required ingredients 😊😊❤❤

For anyone who doesn't like to fold or mix by hand, for the almond cookies and this works with macarons too, Switch the beater from the whisk to the flat paddle and then dump all the almond flour mixture into the egg whites. Beat on the lowest setting until the almond flour is incorporated. For macarons, you'll reach macaronage in about 1 minute so that's probably the right amount of time for the almond cookies too.

In my house my wife goes cookie crazy. She makes double chocolate, turtle cookies, sugar cookies, oatmeal cinnamon (my favorite), peanut butter, and gingerbread. She even makes a fruit cake and chocolate mint fudge

although all of these look fantastic, I have to add one more cookie...and it's in my copy of my version of "The Complete America's Test Kitchen TV Show Cookbook, 2001-2022"...it's the Molasses Spice Cookies recipe. These are the absolute closest to my grandma's cookies I've ever had...and she made the best cookies in the history of cookies...:0)

My grandmother (from Italy) made an anise cookie similar to the one you made but her recipe used 5 - 6 Cups AP flour, a cup of melted butter or margarine, 6 eggs, 1-1/2 Cups of sugar, 4 Tsp. Of Baking Powder and an ounce of your favorite flavor, she used Anise or Lemon, never bothered together. Her recipe made about 100 cookies.
