Hey Terry, you can still get Deleter Screen Tones for the gray shading to use on original art. It may not be as quick to use as the type you were describing, but it's an option. Great video!

8:20 That talk about needing to have a balanced life when working — not just in comics but just in general — put me in mind of Yoshihiro Togashi-San and the frequent hiatuses and delays with Hunter X Hunter. Lots of people give him shit over that, joking about him staying home to play the latest Dragon Quest game or just coasting off of his Yu Yu Hakusho royalties and his wife’s Sailor Moon royalties, ignoring the fact that he’s got children to help raise at home and the pressures of working in weekly manga made him have a nervous breakdown near the end of Yu Yu Hakusho’s run. (And, speaking about deadlines, if you think working mainstream comics in America is tough, imagine trying to get the next installment done for Weekly Shonen Jump!)

So, yeah, long story short, being a Hunter X Hunter fan can be frustrating as hell with the irregular release schedule and the long delays, but I tend to be more understanding about this kind of thing just because the series is so good, and I really do think Togashi-San is struggling for real.

Had a friend, back in high school, that used that grey scale, "scratch and sniff," on every illustration he did. i used to hate that he didn't do it by hand...

I know all about restarting a drawing. I had to do so a few months ago. I should add that I had already penciled in the dialogue balloons! !@#$#@! Anyway, I traced the original to get the image back on track and scanned its word balloons into the computer (and they are coming along -- rather slowly -- but they ARE coming along. (No, I'm not using computer lettering on that piece. I'm doing it by hand-on-mouse in GIMP.) I'm not totally against computer lettering, and used it on a four-panel strip I posted on Instagram this past week.
