No matter how surprised you are by a Gilliam movie, you are never as surprised as the studio execs going “we funded what?”

Hope to see "Time Bandits" in your future!😊

The Baron Von Munchausen stories date back to the late 1700's. They were first published as a book in 1785 by German writer Rudolf Erich Raspe, based on the exaggerated tall tales of a real-life German nobleman and military veteran, Hieronymus Karl Friedrich, Baron von Münchhausen (1720–1797). I have to add that this is one of my all time favorite movies! It just never gets old for me!

The final chapter of Gilliam's thematic 'stages of life' trilogy. Time Bandits, Brazil, and Baron Munchausen.

Don't forget that even when you are old you can be full of love and whimsy 🥰

This movie doesn't get the level of love that it deserves these days. I'm really glad for you that you got to watch it and even happier that you enjoyed it.

A classic film, really glad you picked it! I hope you keep going with Terry Gilliam’s filmography, “Brazil” and “Time Bandits” are great films which I believe will make for great reactions.

THIS is the Director who should have made The Odyssey. Now we'll never know what we could have had

Sarah Polley is terrific in this movie as the child and has gone on to a tremendous career.

Also, the Baron's aging has to do with both delight and adventure, it all rejuvenated him but when Reality kicked in he got older and older. As to the Skeleton thing, its the Angel of Death.

One of my favorite movies as a kid, and I still love it today.

Finally somebody is reacting to this incredible film. I will admit it is hard to follow on a first watch, since it is a story within a story, within a story, but the plot is almost incidental to the production and performances.

The budget for this was $100 million, back when that was a huge amount for a movie. I remember Siskel and Ebert saying, "with some movies, you hear that they spent $100 million and wonder what they spent it on. With this movie, you see every dollar they spent"

Gustave Doré illustrated The Adventures of Baron Munchausen in 1867, and his illustrations look astoundingly like John Neville in the role. One can never have too much absurd whimsy in their life.
