Carl Hayden Smith is a consciousness professor who did what almost no one else has: he volunteered as a human test subject for the first studies to inject DMT directly into people, dosing over the course of three months as "subject zero," the first person to complete all five sessions. This Best Of compiles the strangest things he brought back. It opens with the experience that shook him most — locked inside a loud fMRI scanner while the drug hit, he says the entities arrived en masse and told him he "wasn't scheduled," as if they know precisely when each person is scheduled to die and death is already predetermined. Two weeks later he returned for the identical dose and no entities came at all.

From there the conversation widens. Smith explains why he thinks humans are on the verge of "colonizing" the DMT dimension through extended-state DMT, why the entities only seem to tolerate us in short visits, and why they once warned him he was coming back too often. He pulls up dmtx.ai, an AI engine that recreates a trip from a voice recording, and walks through the peak of his most profound session: an octopus entity handing him a key, an "alien takeover" of the space, and a white unity disc cracking open to reveal a possible multiverse of separate realities.

The back half turns inward and unsettling. He describes a DMT-triggered life review in which he relived his entire life in reverse and could enter other people to feel exactly what he had done to them — his blunt definition of karma — plus becoming "wood consciousness" inside a table and framing death as an expansion of consciousness rather than an end. He closes on "cyberdelics": a headband that triggers lucid dreams on demand, a flicker light that produces an LSD-like trip with no drugs, and Andrew Gallimore's idea that a cap of magnets could one day replace psychedelics entirely. Across every segment the same question keeps surfacing — if these beings really know when we die and we keep pushing into their world, what exactly are we walking into?
