Shouldn't ENGlish be represented by... you know... the flag of ENGland?

Most Korean translations are only of South Korean, Korean. They are not of North Korean, Korean.

English should be split in 2 to make it not controversial.

English (traditional):🇬🇧
English (simplified) :🇺🇸

Or alternative, the Irish flag

when portuguese is represented with a brazilian flag I assume it's brazilian portuguese, and when it has a portuguese flag I know It Will be portuguese from portugal

The Arabic flag makes the most sense out of all of these
The Arabic letter shown on the flag is the literal symbol of the Arabic language

In my opinion, use the flag of the country of origin unless you're talking about a specific dialect.

Urdu was actually invented in India in the state of Uttar Pradesh

just make it where it was originally established, no matter how many speakers of a different country there are

I think we have to consider how unintelligible PT-PT is to the brazilian market. Its probably why games specify they support Brazilian Portuguese even when its the only PT on the list, while English is only specified if there are multiple options.

i'd use the flag of the place it was spoken when the modern form developed

Hot take: English should have the ENGLISH flag.

For Korean, first of all north and South Korean have different scripts, still very similar but there are noticeable linguistic differences, and second, the flag they could use is the unified Korea flag prior to Japanese occupation

Okay. In the case of the Arabic language, it's best not to use Saudi Arabia or Egypt, but rather the flag of the Great Arab Revolt, which is similar to the Palestinian flag, or the Yemeni flag, since Yemen is the origin of the Arabs and the origin of the Arabic language.

How about we stop creating problems where there's none? Not a single person get confused chosing US or British flag or Brazilian and Portuguese flag, and for the ones that get hurt, grow up.

As libyan arab, i think the flag of saudi arabia is the best choice to represent arabic language, there are other accepted choices like the flag of arab league, arab revolt, green flag with the letter ض, egyptian flag or any other arab country flag from the 22 countries

US don't see them as a foreigner when traveling to EU. So airports customs have signs indication the line for foreign/US passports. I can see it would confuse some people if they see a UK flag for English.

It becomes extra interesting when a language has different varieties, with somewhat different grammar and vocabulary.

English and American usually get double representation cuz Realise colour centre vs realize color center...

English should use the actual English flag/ cross of St. George

To be precise, both mainland China and Taiwan use Mandarin as their spoken language and grammatical standard. However, the writing system in mainland China uses Simplified Chinese characters (the PRC government adopted this simplified script after 1949 to improve efficiency and facilitate literacy, as some Traditional characters were deemed too complex; the Chinese communities in Singapore and Malaysia also adopted Simplified Chinese and Mandarin). In contrast, the Republic of China has maintained the use of Traditional Chinese characters—unchanged for millennia—while also using Mandarin (which they refer to as *Guoyu*, mean is "China National Language"). Consequently, the languages spoken on either side of the Taiwan Strait are mutually intelligible, requiring only the learning of a few different characters. Meanwhile, Hong Kong and Macau use Cantonese (which differs grammatically from Mandarin in some respects) and the Traditional writing system (like that of the Republic of China, whereas Guangdong Province uses Simplified Chinese). Mainland Chinese and Taiwanese who know only Mandarin can understand very little of spoken Cantonese; however, while the written form has unique characteristics, it remains largely comprehensible. In fact, Cantonese pronunciation is closer to that of ancient Chinese,, whereas Mandarin evolved as a modification of ancient Chinese when the Manchu people integrated into Han society—a process that took place during the Qing Dynasty. Thus, when the Republic of China government relocated to Taiwan, Mandarin became the official language there as well.
