Welcome to the world of IU. She is something so extraordinarily special it is hard to put into words. While that may sound like a over the top description, don't trust me go on your own journey of discovery.
A few facts to give you a little background. She started to audition when she was 13. She was rejected 20 time. I don't know about you, but I don't know a 13 year old who woukd have continued auditioning after 10 rejections. And she never lost her smile or positive attitude. She was signed by a small company when she was 14 and after just 10 months she debuted in 2008 at the age of 15 (note Korea uses a different age system, where you are 1 at birth, so you make hear her or others say she was 16) .
She rose to national stardom in Korea in 2010 with the song Good Day. She wrote her first song, Hold My Hand, as a professional in 2011 for a kdrama. That song broke into the top 10 on the charts and then again in 2019 when she performed it at a concert in Seoul it broke into the top 10 again.
In 2013 she took control of her music and started writing, composing and producing many of her own songs.
She became the 1st female singer to headline a concert in the round and to headlineca concert at the Olympic Stadium in Seoul. Where the 90,000 seats available for the 2 days sold out in 10 minutes with also half a million waiting in the queue.
This year we did her first world tour that included 8 cities in Europe and the US, London, Berlin, New York, Atlanta, Chicago. DC, Oakland and LA, ALL performances were sell outs. She became the first pure kpop soloist to perform in the West. She has more number 1 hits than by a factor of 2 than anyother kpop soloist or group.
In January of 2023 Rolling Stone added her to their list of the 200 greatest singers of All Time, becoming the 1st Korean to make the list.
In addition to her vocal talents she is also an outstanding actress. Having performed in several of the highest viewed kdramas. In 2022 she attended Cannes Film Festival for the premiere of her movie Broker where she was nominated for Best Actress.
Her most current album, The Winning, from which Love Wins All is part of contains 5 songs total is simply great.
IU sings a variety of genres, including, R&B, Jazz, Rap, pop and rock.
Her live performances sound as good or even better than her recording. She uses MV's to go deeper into the story her song is telling. She even tells a story across 2 or more songs, one case she told the story over 4 songs over a ten year period. She is also known for her encores which can last as long as her concerts. There is no one like her.
There is alot of IU content available through her ofgical channel including, behind the scenes of her concerts, some of her recording and her YouTube show where she has musical guest and features them covering eachother songs. 3 members of BTS have appeared on her show to date.
Below I have included some links to some of her live clips. WARNING the this rabbit hole is deep and well worth it.
This song is a MASTERPIECE!!! I adore it and the emotion in the vocals and video. V is such a talented actor, which you see again in his new single, Winter Ahead! Also, would you believe me if I said she recorded this song while she was sick? The poor girl had caught the flu, but still had to shoot the music video, then like two days later record this song. There's a behind the scenes of the recording if you want to check that out!
They filmed this a couple weeks before V left for the military; they didn't even have the final recording done yet so they used her guide track while filming. There are two behind the scenes for this MV, one from IU's channel and one from BangtanTV.
Both protagonist in this music video are all actors and actress so they acted so naturally their heart breaking respective roles.V as a handsome partner and gorgeous IU.
how many times will i watch this before i can watch it dry-eyed? at least once more… sniffle what gets me is the m/v world is so gritty but their song is so sweet, and their world is so hopeless but they so easily become childlike and joyful, and the ending is so tragic but the name of the song is “love wins all.” 🥺
This is the song that introduced me to IU and I watched it TWENTY-SIX times before I was able to watch without tears. It's intense. The song, the video, the acting. Phenomenal. Should have won VOTY in my opinion.
I can’t believe no one has mentioned IU’s legendary “Good Day” yet! The high note of the song is insane — you HAVE to react to it. Even though IU doesn’t perform this song anymore, it’s still an absolute classic!
she has people feature for her a lot, adn vice versa. some of her most popular vods are Good Day, Palette, Blueming, Eight [which Suga featured on], Bbibbi, Love Poem, and Not Spring Love or Cherry Blossoms. she's wonderful. she also does a LOT of acting
