Former perinatal educator & doula here: yes, partners (male, female or otherwise) go through hormonal changes when they become parents. Men have an increase in prolactin, cortisol, and estrogen, and their testosterone drops. This also changes their brains to become more nurturing and empathic. Studies show that when dads hold their babies on a daily basis this changes their hormones and makes their bonds with their family strong. They can also experience postpartum depression and anxiety. It needs to be talked about more because many of these dads suffer in silence, shut down, or even abandon their families because they can't deal with the changes

I’m afab nonbinary, my older sister is a nurse like Zach’s wife Maggie, gotta say I don’t know many afab nurses who are not cup people! Tampon syndrome is too big of a risk during a 12 hour shift, especially if you work in emergency or labour & delivery because you can get pulled into surgery somewhat last minute but honestly even though I’m in Canada I think the number one thing about nurses in North America rn is that most hospitals aren’t staffed enough to run breaks properly and that makes it hard to take even the few minutes to change a tampon or pad during a shift

Actually period underwear doesn't have as much of a history as tampons and pads do. Tampons date back to at least ancient Greece (they used lint wrapped around a little stick), and pads, usually kept up with some form of sanitary belt, are even older. The concept of panties for women is actually pretty recent in the history of the west. Historically European women wouldn't wear panties, their underwear was simply a chemise and a petticoat, which was later swapped for a chemise and crotchless drawers. They likely used a pad and sanitary belt, or a period apron (Abby Cox, dress historian, has a great video where she tries one out for a day and dives into the history way more than i can) both of which would have been made at home with rags.

You could argue that a pad and sanitary belt are a form of period underwear, in which case period undies have existed since Ancient Egypt, but they're typically considered separate products given the modern products are more distinctly different.

Period underwear, as we know it, is considered to have been invented around the end of the 1960s with the introduction of adhesive pads which subsequently rendered the sanitary belt useless. These underpants were initially meant to be used with the pads, as they simply added a waterproof lining to prevent leaks and had no absorption. Eventually better adhesive pads came along and special pad underwear wasn't needed. Interest wouldn't pick up again until recent years.
