When going to the Renfaire isn't feasible, make your own Renaissance Faire at home.
This took months of planning and preparing to put together (and another month to gather all my footage and thoughts to share with you!), but it was well worth the shrieks of joy from children walloping each other with foam swords.

If you're new here, welcome! My name is Melody, and I make videos about customizing your wardrobe through sewing and thrifting, making costumes (whether that's Halloween, the Renfaire, or something in between), and generally just being a crafty woman who dabbles in many different mediums (eternally a renaissance woman/jack of all trades). I love being able to take something old (whether I already own it or found it at the thrift store) and turn it into something new; that goes for my wardrobe as well. You will also frequently find me frolicking in the woods or fretting over my vegetable & herb garden.

What an incredible event and also how lovely your backyard space/woods to do this in! I love a good themed party, but you're right, it's SO MUCH WORK! Still, looked like everyone had a great time! 🌳

Seriously, though, this is a great solution for those of us who aren't able to attend an official Faire, for whatever reason. Thanks for the inspiration.

I grew up in the 80s and 90s…. Everything was potluck in that era! I remember sports banquets too in our small town.

Everyone would bring their recipe they were known for.

On my side of the family we sometimes bring the salad or dessert or drinks still.

Totally normal! It’s expensive to host.

🌳 A lot of great ideas and this will be useful. For the lances 3/4" PVC will fit in your standard pool noodle perfectly. Put some gorilla glue on it and it will stay like that for years. Its an old technique larpers use to make weapons known as boffers.

As a guest that turns up on time and does everything properly - like the hostess wants bc it’s rude not to in my lil ol’ brain - it really annoys me when other guests don’t do that too! 😅😂

Also, as a UK resident with no ren faires in their area, but would love to go to one, this was very eye-opening! 😁

Your ‘self-directed’ activities was a good idea - no time schedule on those. I would totally have had one of your trail maps!! 🤩

🌲🌳 Wow, you definitely have the yard for a Ren Faire Party. Getting some volunteers to help with set up & breakdown might make it a little easier especially if you continue the tradition & turn this into an annual event. Once you have most of "the stuff" it will be the setting up that is the most time consuming. It's tough to throw parties, especially themed parties in this day & age. People don't always RSVP, it's always a lot of work regardless of how many people show up or not, just getting people to commit & get in the spirit ...it's a lot. And then there's the weather which can be difficult to predict. I always thought it bad timing to hold an Elizebethan Ren Faire in August when it's in the 90s if you expect people to come dressed in period clothing. Anyway, everything looked amazing & I hope your friends & family enjoyed it & appreciated all your hard work ❤
