The new Resident Evil movie is finally here, and after nearly a year of Zach Cregger telling Resident Evil fans what they should expect from his take on the franchise… I finally get to tell you what I think of it.

This is my Resident Evil movie review, recorded immediately after seeing the film. Rather than presenting a carefully structured retrospective, this is more of a post-game interview with myself: a stream-of-consciousness breakdown of everything that was going through my head after watching the movie, from the story and characters to the horror, the action, the references, the writing, and—perhaps most importantly—how this movie actually treats the Resident Evil games and their lore.

Zach Cregger, director of Barbarian and Weapons, has spent the past year making some pretty bold statements about his vision for Resident Evil and attempting to convince longtime fans that this movie understands what makes the games special. That hasn't exactly gone over smoothly with the fanbase.

So now that the movie is actually here, there's only one question left:
Was he right?
Or did we just spend a year arguing about a Resident Evil movie that was never going to understand Resident Evil in the first place?

This is my honest reaction to the new live-action Resident Evil movie, and yes, there will be spoilers.
