I thought it was an interesting choice to reveal that the main character was delivering what turns out to be an entire of Gallon of PCP to Racoon City for Albert Wesker. Very bold.

"Shit getting worse for an idiot for 90 straight minutes" sounds like my kinda jam.

Watching this movie felt like sitting next to my friend on the couch while they are (very badly) playing a Resident Evil game and they’re managing but it’s stressful and fun and we’re just having a great time.

John: "Even the Resident Evil remakes are old now."

Me: eyes slowly widening "fuuuuuuuuuck..."

5:35 Small vent. We had a perfectly good word for this already. We called people Posers. We didn't need a new meaning for the acronym of LARP that referred to something extremely specific.

I love how John says filum

Whenever Leon’s not on screen, all the other characters should ask, “Where’s Leon?”

Resident Evil is sort of inherently and intentionally contradictory. Horror games with action B-movie protagonists, they start scary and slowly shift into power fantasy, some of them lean more into the horror others more into the spectacle. This poor series will always be controversial lol

He accidentally calls Bryan 'Zach', quick everybody laugh

One of the people I saw criticizing the movie was complaining about "product placement"

When questioned, they posted a picture of first aid spray in the barn scene, saying "resident evil is the brand", and I wish I were that stupid sometimes

I hope Zach Cregger doesnt make another one. I think that it works because its a standalone oneshot in the world of Resident Evil and it gets to play with themes and plot in a more short-story style way, with no pressure to continue it or up the stakes again.

Here's the thing about the Crowbcat video, it genuinely did seem like he altered the audio to make his point.

Don't mind that he hates or dislikes the remake, just felt like a disingenuous way of framing his point.

To be honest, I thought that this was an adaptation, just not of a title most of the current fandom would talk about. It feels more in common with RE: Outbreak & File 2. Not claiming that's what Cregger's intention was, I don't know the man, I don't pretend to. but I absolutely adored this movie and thought genuinely that he did a brilliant job of bringing the resident evil world to film.

I was talking with some friends after the movie about how it was a really fun and interesting writing choice to have Bryan be not at all genre-savvy while being surrounded by characters who actually know what's going on. Because he's just some random guy reacting like an average person would in a similar situation. He wouldn't immediately suspect,  "hey, the weird woman I hit with my car is a zombie," he has NO REASON to assume any of the weird shit that's going on is like a zombie virus. By the time suppremly inexplicable shit has happened, he's already so deep in the situation that the only way out is through.

To quote Peter Thiel, "If you're (Resident) Evil, you can't be (Resident) Bad. (Resident) Evil means you're competent, which means you're (Resident) Good cause at least you're (Resident) Doing Something"

Fuck the use of "larper" as an insult. People into larp are some of the most dedicated and crafty folks out there.

The right word is poser

I may be in the minority but I haven't seen a single person complain about the lack of Leon Kennedy in this movie in a serious capacity, just a hundred people saying anyone who dislikes the movie is mad there's no Leon. Personally I liked the movie but I think it's a pretty weak adaptation when it comes to the tone of the series. Call it childish but I think having an optimistic tone and some sort of hopeful ending no matter what tragic stuff goes down is vital to what I love about Resident Evil, and the movie completely sidelines that for comedy. The joke is pretty funny, granted, but it feels more like a Resident Evil parody than a straight Resident Evil adaptation at times.

This movie left me feeling happier and with my mouth more open.

I really enjoyed Cregger's Resident Evil movie and I thought it was a fascinating exercise, to try to faithfully adapt the feeling of playing a Resident Evil game, to capture the player experience, and to do it well at that, rather than to try to make a film of any of the games's stories. I also liked it because it felt a lot more like After Hours than I was expecting.

John still scarred from his lievstream where he said "can we all just finally admit that re 9 was kinda shit"😂

Man that was an awkward few minutes
