Peri Fractic, a retro tech YouTuber, and several other retro tech guys came together to buy the rights and remaining IP of Commodore. They are huge fans of Commodore and wanted not only to preserve what was left of the company but also to give modders who were selling upgrades, mod kits, and other Commodore-related items a legal, easy way to do so in an official capacity. All that was left at this point was a licensing scheme that cost a lot of money to obtain and was pretty challenging to navigate. Honestly, this was about keeping the Commodore community healthy, happy, and alive. They've brought in a ton of key Commodore people, from their heyday, to help rebuild the company. I wish them all the best. It takes a ton of balls, but I feel they know what the customer ultimately wants and hopefully succeed. I know they have some awesome, very tasteful merch for sale and it is affordably priced. I should know cause I bought a mouse pad and a t-shirt. Imagine if someone did this with Atari?

So basically he's like "This is not nearly janky enough for my tastes" ....

Someone made a C64 that works in 2025..
No complaints

EDIT: I have 2 C64 breadbins, 1 C64 (128 style) and a 128, 1 complete CDTV, 3 Amigas (1000 2000 4000) 2 CRT Philip/Commordore screens, a MiSTer, 2 Sony PVMs, 2 Barcos.
As anyone will tell you, unless they are lying, old hardware is fun, but also a handful if you just want to play around with old games.
This is fantastic piece of hardware for people that doesn't have a room filled with old gear but still wants to original experience.
Yes i am considering getting one.. just because.

I am just glad Commodore are back on the scene.

And remember, PCB stands for “Perifractic’s Commodore Buyout”

17:51 You just need to disable the emulated 1541 floppy, which is device 8. Or change the device ID in the Meatloaf.

The original C64 SID chip is partially analog, which helps explain why it sounds more “organic”.

The C64 was hugely popular in the US. He's clearly mixing it up with the Commodore Amiga.

13:34 you forgot to disable the UltiSID emulation so you're listening to both at the same time. They both play at the same memory address. 😢

The new CEO, PeriFractic, made it clear he wanted it functionally identical and compatible with original software and utilities and made sure that nearly everything on-board matches the specs from 43 years ago. He is meticulous and detailed and that is why this computer is, unsurprisingly, awesome.

My favourite part is watching Sean trying to navigate the GEOS interface with the joystick rotated 90 degrees. 18:27

The cassette USB disk made me smile.

I learned the BASIC programming language on the C64.  Will always have fond memories, maybe I'll buy one, just for yuks.  I still remember the SPRITE graphics, was way ahead of it's time back then.

I would recommend looking at the video settings. That HDMI out aspect ratio looks horrible. It should be 4:3. I know it's in there. I've seen people post before and after pics.

Working cartridge ports, working serial, a user port connector (albeit hidden inside).   This is actually an amazing machine.   A lot of the experience and capabilities of a "real" C64, the potential for similar experimentation, and none of the uncertainty or flakiness of real 40 year old hardware.   I'll be saving up and working with my friends to get their kids one of these.

Emulation, FPGA recreation, real old hardware, or any other approach that lets people experience some of the joy of these old machines, whether from nostalgia or just for experimentation ,  is a worthy endeavor in my mind.

Isn’t the new CEO of Commodore by YouTuber retro recipes channel?

I'm reminded of the Star Trek episode when they put Data's 300 year old head he lost in the past onto his present body!

The HL slot was access to the variable inductor inside the RF modulator or the board. You could adjust the RF video signal if needed.
