I found the perfect digital voice assistant, and it's from 2001. It also uses the TIMEX "Data CRT" tech to transfer data THROUGH a CRT monitor. I bet that works great.

Let's see how far into the future 5.99 at Goodwill can get me!

Man, they really pulled out all the stops on that thing, and then put them back in, and added more stops.

It’s brand new, can you believe no one bought this?

Yeah. Sure appears to be

Totally got "I am Bender, please insert girder" vibes from that thing

Thanks for unlocking a memory of mine. I had one as a kid and my parents confiscated it from me due to only spamming the word Alabama and farts and burps with it

the voice sounds like something from a numbers station broadcasting out of East Germany in the '70s

Nearly 2000 words and sounds because they didn't understand what Y2K meant and didn't want to take any chances.

14:15 Notice how "TDL Adapter" is checked, it's hard to tell because of the bad UI design but, that same white dot checkbox definitely is not checked later on when it does works.
TDL Adapter is the "Timex DataLink Adapter for LCD displays", you don't use an "Adapter" with regular Timex DataLink because the CRT is the 'adapter' in that case.

Yes, yes that is apparent.

I think this is where Boards of Canada got their voice samples from.

Life hack: you can use a can opener to get into those incredibly tough and sometimes extremely sharp blister packs.

Still better than Siri

The thumbnail made me go "Looks like something out of Men in Black."
It looks like one of the toys that Burger King had for Men in Black II.

“This E-Brain is empty” is a pretty WILD SAYING!

That app looks like those horrible multimedia apps that were all the rage during the late 90's that people were using either Macromedia Director or Macromedia Authorware to put together and whomever thought that was an acceptable UI for that device deserves a special place in hell.
