Irish horror film where the antagonist is a landlord? I'm shocked.

The first HOYEVER of 2026.

the way the mother's body looks and moves is so horrifying, especially considering it's not even that gruesome a corpse, when you really look at her. but it genuinely looks like the mother is trapped in her dead body. like, the absolute JOY you can see in her face once she has moe...ugh.

There comes a time for a lot of horror fans when you just kind of appreciate the craft but you're not necessarily scared anymore. This movie scared me.

1:45 BLOODY HELL between this monstrosity and the caveat basement lady, this director is really good at giving us "slightly goofy but somehow more terrifying than most horror villains" creatures

@shaun5047 8 months ago

That scene of him trying to cut through the wall was terrifying. Everytime he turned back to check on the dead lady had me on the edge of my seat. 😂

Watching this one in a hurry just to get that thumbnail off my fyp

okay. that imagery in the first few seconds of the vid's gonna stuck in my head for a while and its 2 in the morning here. yay

This movie was sold to me by an ex as “a horror movie where all the bad decisions the mc makes actually make sense because he has brain damage” and it was all up from there. First time I genuinely yelped/yelled from a scare in a while. Such good spooky fun, was actually surprised you hadn’t covered it yet!

Something my partner and I really loved about this film when we watched it was discovering that Isaac was just a really decent guy.

We always expect these sorts of horror stories to go the Silent Hill route of having a guilty protagonist.
It's nice that for once the main character was just some poor guy who paid the price for trying to do something good. It makes the ending of him remembering his past and being able to leave so rewarding.

9:57 to be completely fair, that is exactly what a fox sounds like.

I cant go on without watching a caveat review at least every 2 months

This movie made my SKIN CRAWL. I. Loved. It.

When the mom peeks up and then disappears? I think I stopped breathing.

The corpse seeming to move when not looking? Ready to utterly poop myself.

I’m excited to rewatch this closely, and Oddity too.

Oh god... I remember seeing that creepy rabbit drum toy thing. There's something so off about it, like it judges you. Every time I see a picture of that thing I have the sudden urge to delete my browser history. Again I really hope you check out Abruptio is is bizarre especially since the entire film is made with puppets.

I think what I like most about McCarthy is watching a craftsman challenge himself with churning horror out the ridiculous and absurd. On paper, the bit with the knit cap in that crawlspace is just...silly. On screen, I found it unbearably suspenseful. He did it in Oddity with that stupid contact lens.

Going bungee jumping tomorrow and im in two minds about Ryan telling me to stay away from harnesses.

@ChristianJackson-hz4dq 8 months ago

The crawling in the vent scene and inside the wall scramble is the most scared ive been in a horror movie in years.

@PlagueRavenRX 8 months ago (edited)

The drum rabbit's menacing glare deeply unsettled me. Its eyes are so realistic and detailed while the rest of its body is tattered.

The interesting thing about the rabbit/hare is that in Irish folklore the sí and witches are said to be able to transform into hares and that some people believed it was taboo or unlucky to hunt them or eat them. There's also the púca (literally spirit/ghost) which is sometimes depicted as a dark man, horse, goat, dog, or hare or sometimes a creature with the features of all of these. And they are said to haunt rural spaces, forests, bogs, and crossroads.
