Right now, I'm sticking to the idea of using real life as an operating system interface for apps - where "apps" are a standalone console, a dedicated music player, a PC, knowing how to cook, walking instead of taking a taxi, and so on. The more I replace every phone feature with these real-world alternatives, the happier I become. As a bonus, I also spend significantly less money.

The Computer Room / Computer Lab at school still holds a special place in my nostalgia!

When we just had landlines, we sometimes came home from work and took the phone off the hook or let it go to answer phone – we simply wanted time out from others. Now we seem to look for communication constantly. Anyway, this is a really simple and useful hack, so I'm going to get in to the habit of keeping my phone on its stand while I'm home. Thanks for the tip!

Not putting my phone in my pockets has made the biggest difference for me. Keeping it plugged in a different room when I am home and keeping it in my bag when I am at work. Then I no longer have to constantly resist the urge to pick it up throughout the day when I can feel it touching against my body. If you are trying to quit smoking and walk around with a pack of cigarettes in your pockets all day it will be difficult to resist.

Answer to the video’s question: how many minutes a day is your phone more than two feet away from you.
I’ve already had the habit for about a year of leaving my phone in a different room from the one I sleep in. That way I fall asleep faster, and there’s a clock next to the bed that I can set the alarm on in the morning.

I kinda miss the princess phone that used to sit on my desk next to the clunky 486 desktop PC, back before the iPhone took over everything and life turned to distracted shite.

"Take a log off the fire."
I like that a lot.

Your channel is truly one of the few that offers meaningful and useful content. I sincerely wish it success .

Been doing this for a while because I kept misplacing it. We now have a shelf dedicated to phones and keys nicknamed the Kriator.

Another tip. If you own a pair of Bluetooth headphones. Use them to talk on the phone and keep you phone in the assigned landline spot so your not tempted to start using it for other things.

@9:55 He talks about the Bluetooth adapter product that hooks the landline up to a smartphone.

I've been doing this lately. I use a pocket notebook for most at-home admin needs so the phone can live in a drawer. For my needs, I schedule phone calls for socializing ahead of time so I still talk to people. I find that time slows down in this experience of "deep time" while sleep is easier to fall into.

I'm going to bring up the idea of a phone 2 jack to my dad. He often keeps his phone on silent and then leaves it somewhere in the house so he cant hear when someone's calling him. My parents got rid of their landline last year, but having an older phone ring would help alert him.

Very funny! My mobile phone's home at home is where the old landline phone used to be, which was originally a rotary dial phone. Also, I have a wooden drainer like Spencer's, which I found at the local rubbish dump about thirty years ago, and a very similar wooden bowl that I had for at least forty years.

I thought the title said "Landmine your smartphone"

@NinetiesKiddd 8 days ago

Here’s what I find the hardest part. Yes the smartphone is the huge issue, but what’s more of a problem is that mobile apps are standard for everything and it’s only becoming more ingrained with each passing year. That’s the problem, it’s everyone else’s world and when you’re the odd one out, what do you do for fun. People don’t “hang out” anymore.

This is a fantastic idea, and tethering it to an old phone is so fun!

The one thing I would add is removing all notification sounds except for phone.

I did that a year ago and realized that is the only notification that matters.
