imagine critizing someone's artwork and then the next day you see yourself in a painting being in hell, getting t*rtured with no way for escape

Michael Angelo being petty and putting the cardinal in hell is the most artist thing one can do under the circumstances

I can't imagine painting this enormous masterpiece, laying down the last brush stroke, stepping back and saying "Yeah, I did that".

Excuse me if my english is not good.
I love your work. Really. I am 46 and I will die. This is my last birthday (15 nov) with my children. I'm alone (adult) with them, but we take lot of time to listen your vidéo.
My daughter will continue to listen to you.
You're good, I have spend a very good time to think about ''the questionner of the sphinx'' (maybe because it will be the same question for me). Adele (my daughter, 14 yold) , will explain paintings to his brother Carl (10yold) , after me, thanks to you.

The Book of the Saved being so much smaller than the Book of the Damned, is a sad possibility.

Love that he took a shot at a critic, while also laying himself bare (and boneless).

Another theory about his inclusion as the flayed skin is that it was a commentary of how he felt the Vatican treated him. He put all of his soul and an immense effort into the work, permanently damaging his own body in the process. Only to be told that the result was in bad taste, there was to many poor people in it, and not enough gold and ultramarine. The pay was probably not adequate either.

i CAN'T FIT THIS COPY OF THE PAINTING INTO MY COTTAGE AS THE CEILINGS ISN'T 40 METRES ACROSS.

Finally! The Last Judgement! I've been waiting for you to do a video on this for a long time!!

Art back then was profound! Years of details and painstaking perfection. Crammed full with meaning and captured the soul.
NOW?! Now we have splats on a canvas and they dare to call it “art”.

Comments sure are crazy for this video... when I was a child going through a michaelangelo art book, this skin scared me so badly lol

There's a cool hypothesis by Omar Calabrese: Michelangelo did actually painted himself all over the Sistine, but in the form of the palms of the hands of many characters, offered to the viewer's point of view, which was rather unusual. The essay is called Chiromanzia di Michelangelo, and there's a followup by Giuseppe Raudino.

My wife & I have seen the Sistine Chapel in person. The frescos are astonishingly beautiful.

The flayed skin being Michelangelo himself is not new. I remember reading about it in an art book we had as a kid in the 60s.

I have to...I HAVE TO go to the Sistine Chapel, and see it for myself. I think I may weep for joy.

@davidroffey644 10 months ago

I have known this fresco for many, many years and I have always been convinced
that this was the flayed skin of Michaelangelo.

I see a skull outline when I look at the whole painting. Does anyone else see it, or should I skip into therapy?

I saw this astounding painting at the Vatican Sistine Chapel! Yes, I do think that is a self-portrait of Michelangelo - "skinned." And it is next to the figure, you pointed out was the most horrifying, of the man covering his face being pulled down by demons. I could linger over this painting for days.
