Omg another video

Irish person here! Cailleach is pronounced ‘Kylock’, and while it is a creature in folklore, it is also used as the Irish word for witch. Ogham is pronounced ‘Oh-um’. Also, the witch speaks Irish in the movie and she was mainly just ranting about the devil but when she captured Mal she said something like ‘you’re the father’. She must have been listening when Fiona was recording her messages, which is a great little detail!

The idea that if Ohm had finished the chalk circle he wouldn't have been able to have that bit of closure with his mom is what really gets to me. Closing yourself off from others may protect you, but it will never heal you.
I love this director so much. Genuinely so many interesting layers to his movies that end up sticking with me. Really glad you enjoyed/made a video on this one!

The shot where we see Fiona with her eyes now closed brought tears to my eyes; she was waiting to make sure Ohm made it out instead of Mal, and could finally rest. It was a little moment of beauty and peace after all that terror.

"People ought not put their hands places they could be bit off" needs to be a tshirt or bumper sticker, that is high quality life advice

I actually love that he tells Mal off for shooting the goats - it's his first glimmer of humanity and a clue as to who he is underneath (the kind of guy who goes to try to safe Fiona).

I love the concept of a being that feeds from guilt regardless of the person's intention. It is always nice to have a horror movie with a hopeful ending, especially after watching your video on Obsession and the ending being so "real" but so absolutely mean.
Also, I have never been this early ( I wrote this at the end of the video but started 6 minutes after it was posted)

I do think the thing with Ohm's book is such a perfect encapsulation of his character because like. He absolutely could break the bottle on the sand, enough force and the sand would act pretty much solid. He also could break it on his leg, or his other arm, or, yknow, LITERALLY ANYWHERE ELSE.

Happy Birthday 🎂

His. Name. Is. Ohm. Because. Resistance. Is. His. Character. I didn't clock that when I first watched it! I LOVE THAT

I really liked how grounded this movie felt. Like I was worried that Fiona had been like. A sacrifice to the witch or something and was so pleased to see that no. There is no big cult or anything, just one man who sucks ass and does the same sort of crime that happens all the time in real world. Way smaller, way more grounded, more personal and absolutely more scary.

Jerry though, what a lad! Risking his own life multiple times to help randoms, what a guy

I think it's an interesting how in Caveat, Oddity, and Hokum the real "villain" in the story isn't so much the supernatural threat as an entitled, shady coward of a dude hurting/killing a woman.

My favorite thing about McCarthy as a horror director is his sense of humor. His films aren’t horror comedies but they are so casually funny.

My other favorite thing is that his ghosts aren’t malevolent to the perspective character; they’ve got their own things going on and are sometimes even helpful.

The design for Jack the jackass could sooo easily have come out goofy and not scary at all, making the jumpscares with it cheap and pointless, but they did an amazing job. This one was really unsettling for me. Loved it.

I love the jump scares in this movie because it's not a cheap gag on the characters. Ohm is running around doing his thing. We are the ones who are spooked and cheering him on.

Mal really thought to himself "let me take a relatively minor thing like cheating on my wife and getting a girl pregnant, and turn that into a double homicide and arson" like bro just go home and face up to the consequences of cheating. at worst you get a divorce and no longer inherit the hotel from the wife's father. now, if he survived and made it out, he would be looking at decades of jail for murdering two people and burning down a building

The thing with the mushrooms (seeing how mushrooms and other psychedelics are seen in all kinds of folklore, myth, and people's beliefs today) i actually really like that even with the "open door" this guy who doesnt believe in ghosts never sees them until she (his mom) needs him too, but the audience is absolutely aware bc the "door" into the supernatural is open through the storytelling. Very cool way to incorporate ghosts into a film; i love when ghosts arent just malevolent all the time, and I may actually watch this even tho i desperately dislike jumpscares lmao

Ohm is such a Stephen King character - a grumpy, alcoholic writer who goes to a spooky hotel, and has ghost stuff happen to him. I would not be surprised if he was one of the inspirations.

HOLY SHIT you made it into Velocipastor two! You must have been so psyched. Definitely gonna support it however possible when its a more public release congratulations!
