choosing 2009 because hull were there, we're all familiar with your game

The Miraculous Rise Of Atalanta, from playing in Serie B in 2011/2012 season to winning the Europa League, beating a generational Leverkusen side and finishing in the top 5 in Serie A for a couple of seasons now. They deserve it.

Just gotta say, Alfie, I was queuing up videos to watch this morning, and found myself hoping there'd be something good. I watched a few, and there, tucked among the dross, was this gem. I saw that it was your video, and actually smiled and laughed, immediately cheered by the prospect of another excellent deep dive into football. When I saw how long it was, I actually sighed with happiness. I'm not maybe your usual demographic, being a nearly 60-year-old Spurs fan and grandmother. But I love your work, and just wanted to make sure I said so. I hope you've had a great day, and that it gets better from here.

I'm not going to lie, I'm a bit disappointed to find this video is about Premier League teams from the north, not teams from the Northern Premier League

"So where did it all go wrong for the North of England?"

Some time between 1979-1990

i am a welsh premier league fan and i always find myself asking "where have the teams from our biggest cities gone?" the answer is that they play in england while the rest of welsh football is severely neglected and starved of any kind of attention. I think a video about our league's short history and it's uncertain future would be very good 👍 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿

The Hull Allam 'you can die when you want' quote will never not be funny.

Alfie, actually logged in to tell you how great I think your videos are - I always look forward to your uploads and cannot remember a video I haven't enjoyed. You talk about football in a calm, fun, insightful way - no rage bait, genuine analysis. Love what you do. Thank you!

Back in the 90’s, while I lived in Hull. My friend John Gibbs predicted that the Premier League would be made up of mainly London teams!

An example of Northern football decline is the loss of the Darlo vs Hartlepool derby.

I notice how the economic downturn of northern England kind of reflects the economic downturn in United States with the rust belt region as both have been negatively impacted by economic realignment

"I could make a whole series about them..." PLEASE I WOULD WATCH THE HELL OUT OF THAT

Hi Alfie, as the theme here is geography, I felt it necessary to point out that Jude Bellingham is from Stourbridge in the Black Country, not Birmingham- conflating the two is a bit like saying somebody from Bradford is from Leeds- it’s very close  geographically, but the Black Country and its people are distinct from their Brummie neighbours- Brummies would say the same (they call us lot from up the road Yam-yams). Other than that, keep up the good work- your deep dives, historical dives and sociopolitical dives are all top notch and I’m very grateful for all of the research you put in and all of the information you relay! FWAW

Love the socio economic insights in your videos

22:54 First time I’ve heard Alfie almost break character and laugh
when he’s saying “but I think that unilaterally deciding to relocate your family, without consulting your wife,. probably isn’t a recipe for a happy or successful marriage…” lmfaoooo. I definitely couldn’t have kept a straight face saying that after saying “call me a soy boy beta cuck simp”

I didn't expect Northern England to be of any entertainment,  and there you are.
Thank you for the great vid, Alfie.
Cheers from a French guy in the US.

As a American man born and raised in America with a family originally from Portugal i must say your videos are some of the best things I’ve seen on YouTube thank you for sharing such good content

25:58 Just a caveat - Istanbul is not even Turkey's capital, it's Ankara. But it is indeed its largest city by far.

Can you do a video on the rise of Bodø/Glimt. A town of 42,000 people all the way up in the arctic circle in Norway with an impressive 3-0 win against Olympiacos last night. Wins against Porto and Besiktas this season as well. Not to mention a couple of wins against Roma in the conference league (including a 6-1) a few seasons ago. They’ve really come out of nowhere in the past 4 or 5 years. Not sure if it’s too soon but I don’t think there will be a better time to make the video.

The JD Vance jump scare was entirely uncalled for, I was trying to have a decent morning.

I saw two things today, which kind of puts London's expensive-ness into frame:
1 - The price of a last-minute ticket to FC Nantes vs Strasbourg this weekend (€10, or about £8.40)
2 - A beggar outside Liverpool Street station, asking for £18 just for a hostel...

To me, thats paints a pretty stark picture.
