Would you let The Minimalists declutter your home?

That's nice that you two don't judge people for their clutter! It can, seriously, be an illness. No one who has a mental illness should be judged.

I’m a single mom and extreme minimalist. You guys changed my life almost a decade ago. I was an organized hoarder when my kids were young. Now I own a very few items, and I feel the most peace that I’ve ever felt as a mother and human. I opened up my social media pages and did a tour of our extreme minimalist apartment and people were so ferocious. I received hundreds of threat comments saying that I was a horrible mother and that they were all going to call CPS because we don’t own a couch, chairs, TV or decorations, oh and plants! I’ve owned all those things in the past and they didn’t bring me joy. They caused chaos and stress in different ways. My kids aren’t little kids anymore. I have two that are almost adults and 1 that’s a preteen. We have everything we need. My kids are happy and I have so much more time energy and money to take care of them now that I’m not maintaining a home. I’m still processing the comments, negative comments, and threats! Wow I almost gave up on social media because my heart was so broken to see how judged I was because I didn’t have artwork on the walls for my kids to look at. I was called a horrible mom because we don’t have a couch or tv and chairs. We all sleep on Japanese futon beds, and I even said in the video these are Japanese futon beds that are nontoxic and super cozy for us, and everybody judge me because we don’t have traditional beds. I know there are some amazing people out there who don’t judge people based on how their home looks, but there are also a lot of people out there who do judge people on how their home looks, and it breaks my heart. I’m going to continue to share my minimalist journey because it changed my life and gave me freedom to step into motherhood and be present with my children. It gave me freedom to save money, because I wasn’t buying useless stuff anymore. It gave me freedom to be more present with my kids because instead of decorating our home and trying to maintain the home I was able to spend that time with them. I want to help other moms who struggle with trying to create a likable home and be a mother. The minimalists changed my life so deeply and my gratitude is so deep that I want to continue helping people the way they helped me!! ILY all the minimalists 💙🥹

My mom worked at Bass Pro, Johnny Morris (the CEO) comes in to chat with his employees in jeans a boots. Sure I know he likely owns fancy clothes for business deals. But he dressed down to earth when visiting the store and talking to his people.

TK, great discussion regarding healthy and unhealthy versions of signals, and aspirational vs compensatory purchases.

Listening for the second time this morning.  This is one of the best, most meaningful and perspective-shifting messages I’ve heard in a long time.  I NEEDED this.  Thank you 🙏🏻 ❤

Ryan looks kind of tortured after so many years talking the same topics to death 😂

It's good to hear these truths over and over, until it finally sinks in.  I have blind spots in my life.  When I think of all the friends and family who I loved, who are no longer with us, I NEVER think about their clothes or their posssessions.  I think about our conversations, our laughter, our adventures, our time spent together, and the vibe of not being judged but rather time enjoyed.  I NEVER think about their possessions.  But I do remember a neighbour of mine when I was a kid; they had their brand new furniture sewn up in plastic, which made it extremely uncomfortable to sit on.

Great clip! Nothing like enjoying the present

Wonderful discussion. Thank you, Minimalists, for seeing and believing that i can, too, be free from clutter. Giving us the tools  to help us take that first step to minimalism has changed my life and my families life. Many blessings to you ❤

Josh...that article you wrote was fabulous..."I get to do this" thanks for sharing.  It is an attitude of gratefulness and you possess it.

That hustle culture hurt me when I was 18. I was introduced to MLMs and I tried to follow the mindset. I ended up broker than I was, I burned bridges, and I thought I was a loser because I couldn’t keep up.

Instead of "I get to clean the kitchen" I use "I deserve a clean kitchen" I have to do the work for me because I deserve it. ❤️

I have a 96 powerstroke diesel. I paid cash for it as a 17 year old with big dreams of horse shows. I drove that thing all over the south eastern US pulling my horse trailer. I am 34 and still smile every time I crank the truck. I use it now as a farm truck, but I find the simplicity grounding.

Beautiful words!

I have friends that invite me to dinner pretty often whose home is  minimally cluttered -a place for everything, and everything in its place. You could eat off the floor it’s so clean, but invariably the wife will say something is a mess. Consequently, I’m too embarrassed to have them over to my house because, by comparison, my home  doesn’t come close to measuring up to theirs. Even though my home is not by any means overly cluttered or dirty.  😕

Ryan looks so stoned!!!!!

What you have is not you- it reflects you, like a mirror. The mirror doesn't reflect who you are on the inside. Your heart does that. The mirror shows the 'zit' yet the 'zit' is not who you are. Fake is all around- and fake can be quickly identified. When I go to see my friend, I enjoy nice surroundings, yet I greatly enjoy being with my friend. Thankful that I have a friend.

I love the sentiment about getting to go get groceries, getting to cook dinner etc etc(the ‘mundane’ things)  what a great way to look at it! ❤️

Can T.K. Be any more amazing.
