Joe's "Piss off, Jerry," is one of the kindest things he could say.
Also, Katja is so awesome.

At 14:52 I think Joe actually, weirdly, is being a bit kinder to Gerry - sure, he tells him to piss off as always, but he actually uses his name, is honestly smiling as he says it, and has a really soft tone in his voice. Everything in that exchange except the words is friendly. And Joe is stubborn - he'd never actually openly be kind like that.

Joe appreciated what Jerry said. That “piss off” was said with love

The ability to go from 0 to 100 instantly is absolutely hereditary.

“Which station?” Is the most Catholic school girl question ever uttered on television.

It’s very obvious that Sarah is Orla’s mom 😂 They’re both hilarious.

I love that these two girls laugh as much as I laughed while watching this show, which is a lot

In the officially book it says Erin was seething at the idea of James losing his v card before her. Before the party she also took a "is he boyfriend material test?" and she was definitely not thinking of David given the answers and her reaction🌚

As the show continues the mother becomes my favorite character.

Maple: Sister Michael- "Rawhide is on in 15 minutes". Rawhide was a black and white weekly Western TV show (cowboys, horses. the wild west).

I fucking love Orla with all my heart.

Absolute GEM of a show to watch along again

The Protestant kid being terrified to the point of muteness is played for laughs but from what I understand it did happen that if 'the wrong person' wandered across boundaries they could end up proper dead.

I love that about the show, how the Troubles are almost never in the forefront but if you stop and think about it you realize how messed up it was. For the girls it was normal, so they just see it as part of the scenery. How can you tell something is strange when you've never seen it any other way.

When I was that age, I was also dramatic. My poor parents.

Kids near Chernobyl, or downwind of it, were often sponsored by families in participating countries in order to give their bodies a break from the radiation. Some parents had fears of being nuked themselves. Those worries were shown to be unfounded.

2:30 Americans are always asking Irish people if they know random other Irish people, it's super-common!
6:14 They are all wearing denim jackets to express their individuality!

@rdale2k5 3 hours ago

"They're all wearing denim jackets." Well way back in the 1994's denim jackets were in fashion.

Erin was definitely just jealous lmao

For context after the Chernobyl disaster groups of Ukrainian children and orphans would be brought over for a few weeks each year and stay with host families around Ireland. The program was still in place in the mid 2010s and presumably up to the invasion.
