“Swear on Dolly” hits way differently nowadays 😢

Sister Michael's BS detector is highly tuned.

God I love that the parents (particularly Erin and Orla’s moms) are just as messy as the kids 😂😂 The show definitely wouldn’t have been as good if they were just normal, responsible parents lol!

Most don't get the joke about the bonbons being hard. Dennis gave them pick n' mix for free 'cause they're old lol

I know Mrs. Quinn was undone by the news of Dolly's passing

The actor who played Grandpa Joe on Derry Girls also played Ser Barristen Selmy on Game of Thrones

Swear on Dolly 😭

I'm about to burst waiting for them to get to the funeral episode.

A crying religious statue.  This could be a documentary.  Growing up as a kid in Ireland, we went through the phenomenon of religious statues that moved.  Looking back now it was bonkers.  People travelled miles, stared at statues for hours to see if they would move.  Everything moves when you stare at it for long enough.  One day on my way into school, a historical statue in our town square had a sign around its neck 'Gone to Lunch'.  Makes me laugh even now.

Accents are about absorbing them over time, in concentrated bursts. It'll click when your brain goes into that input mode.

Derry Girls reminded me a lot of the first season of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia:  Seemingly sprung up out of nowhere, no real pedigree that I'm familiar with, no "by the makers of...", full of youthful energy and chaos and yelling, and yet somehow so thoroughly polished and artful.  Both shows seem like they're guided by the sure hand of someone who knows how to do television comedy really well, and powered by the frenetic zaniness of performers who are just letting it all go.

This show was made for Arianna’s humor 😭

3:03 it's hard to believe that most of them are all in late twenties early thirties here

James is one of the only characters who isn't a dick

I love watching Maple and Arianna watch Derry Girls...it is the highlight of my week

For Halloween you two should dress up as Sister Michael and Orla!

This is the one. Where father Peter tells Erin that she is special, and her expression shows all that he has felt her entire life. "Yes ! Finally someone recognises how special I am !"
Saoirse-Monica Jackson is so talented. She went on to big things after this.

They do James badly every time :_acry:

Every time this show does something outrageous, you think "Well, they can't top that". But then they do indeed top that. 😄

From Erin's Diary (because the book is also great):

Okay, I take it most of you will have read the absolute hatchet job the
‘Derry Journal’ did on us. I’m considering suing for defamation of
character. None of us can even leave our houses without getting harassed. Dennis the shopkeeper calls us “The Children of Fuckima”, which doesn’t even make sense. Like, that’s not even a play on words. Absolute moron.

(Is there a chance Dennis might read this when it’s published? Is it wise to call him a moron? Obviously, I want to remain true to myself as a writer and not censor my work but I am quite scared of him. Worth giving this some thought.)

The bottom line is we did not stage a fake miracle to get out of sitting our history exam. It was simply a series of unfortunate misunderstandings and I strongly believe Father Peter steered the truth to fit his own personal agenda. I mean, I’m not one for conspiracy theories but I’m wondering if the Pope told him to market Derry as the next Lourdes – there’s a lot of money to be made out of these apparitions…when Granda went to Lourdes he came back with Our Lady of Lourdes bath towels, an ashtray, some Tshirts, pencil cases for me and Orla and a couple of Sacred Heart dummies for Baby Anna – honestly, Take That have less merchandise. Apparently,
some people are saying I faked the miracle to impress Father Peter because I fancied him.

As if! I mean, he does have amazing hair but he’s a priest! It’s disgusting!
Then again, people in this place don’t tend to let the truth get in the way of a good story.
