I used to work at an aquarium shop back when the show was big. They reached out to us to see if we wanted to be featured on the show and “collaborate” with them. Turns out what they meant was we want to you to give us a ton of fish, corals, etc for free and in return you’ll be paid in “exposure”. My boss told them no and they tried to blackball in the industry us for a while

The best part of this show is that they all hate each other and had a huge falling out. The 2 guys don't talk anymore, and the wives openly trash each other.

The most good this show has done is the sheer number of people who watched it, asked themselves: “Hey, is this okay for the fish?”, and then found out it wasn’t. It’s literally half of the people I know who care about fish welfare a lot.

9:59 You want to talk about torturing fish, watch the episode where they were asked to build a giant fish tank behind home plate at the Florida Marlins stadium. If it wasn't bad enough that a near 100mph fast ball could slam into the glass and traumatize the fish, the fish had to watch the Marlins.

i once saw where they did a Shaq tank for his entertainment room and he said that he hated it so much that after everyone left he hired an actual professional to fix the tank and the fish inside.

I was WAY into tanked as a kid and as an avid aquarium enthusiast now, watching this show to day is wild😭 rip to so many of those fish

I worked at a casino that was featured in this show. They installed a giant cylindrical aquarium with a bar wrapped around it. It looked really cool, but it never stopped leaking the entire 7 years I worked there. Also, they put a bunch of fish in there that were not compatible with each other and it was basically a blood bath for the first week.

When I was in elementary school I used to think Shark Tank was a spinoff of this show… I was disappointed in the lack of shark tanks.

“He’s always juggling eight different projects” is a good reason to NOT get an octopus. They are very intelligent and require enrichment alongside their feedings and medical care. They’re not an animal you can just cover the basics for and they’ll be fine. They would need someone who can dedicate a significant amount of time to their care.

They always depict filling these tanks with water and fish within hours to make a deadline, those tanks aren't cycled.

i just realized, literally Fish Owning 101 is “don’t tap on the glass”. first thing i learned about fish tanks. and they’re having people… skateboard… on that tank… wjat

Says he’s gonna read hate: “Where is the guy I used to know” that’s not hate man. That’s devastating sorrow. That’s grief.

“i was the bro before ho kinda guy; i chose you every time over my blood and family” is a crazy way to publicly call your sister a ‘ho’

People are so cruel to fish. I rescued an old fish whose owner was going to throw him out of the window on a 3rd floor. He lived out his retirement in a nice calm tank in my home. I miss his little face. RIP Wonky.

I was always concerned with the birds they kept in the room where they made the tanks. All the fumes from the caulk and acrylic probably did major damage to them because birds are really sensitive to fumes. They just didn't seem to care about any of the animals period. I remember a few episodes where I couldn't believe what they built because it seemed super unsafe for the fish and I wondered how they were experts when I had basically no knowledge of tanks and yet I seemed to know better lol

i read a quote from somewhere that went something like "the reason people dont have empathy for fish is because they cant scream."
i think about that quote a lot, especially when i see stuff like this.
the fish stresed out of their minds in that ramp tank, the fish boiling alive in the gumball machine tank. oh, if only they could scream...

@leebobeebo 1 year ago

looking at the gumball tank with living fish in it was so eerie there's not even a single plant in there

people honestly dont know just how much matinence fish actually need. Unlike tiktok tries to tell you, you cant shove 5 guppies in a water bottle with a few plastic pebbles and call it a day. sizing and decoration matter. filters and population matter.
