Is This The Quintessential Lack of Self Awareness?

Mike Winger tries to explain why we should believe Christianity over other religions, and doesn't seem to be able to make the case without undermining his own points.

Begging The Question: The Mike Winger story.

@CarlosRodriguez-dh7mm 5 hours ago

13:20 As a DM, it's sooooo easy to plan, reference, or even improv something in a D&D session, then make the world-building or story feel inevitable. It feels like magic to the players. Sometimes I'll write something vaguely prophetic, not knowing what it means, and they'll interpret it around themselves.

I don't need to know where I'm going. I just need to have a basic idea of where I've been. And with that, it can look like I've plotted everything, even their own decisions, from day 1.

This stuff is so trivial to do, but it's really convincing. I kinda sympathize with Christians because they're just watching the invisible wind rattle a bush, and they think that means a monster is lurking there.

Apropos of nothing, but since the vast majority of preachers/theists accurately believe that the vast majority of preachers/theists are either honestly incorrect or actively lying, no religious organization should be tax exempt and all of them should require a mandatory audit every year and be regularly investigated for abuse.

5:30 He is wrong about Japanese mythology. The Kami Izanagi and Izanami form land by churning water with a spear. Not by dying.

Mike Winger is one of those apologists whose entire career is an indictment of the field of apologetics. If there was any intellectual integrity in the field, people like him wouldn't even get out the gate.

It astonishes me that not a single apologist is capable of logical or critical thinking. What they say is embarrassing at best.

Lmao i just listened to Carry On Wayward Son this morning. Great intro

I think it's somewhat ironic that he also fails to understand that Islam actually uses the same documents to instead point to Mohamed being the prophet instead of Jesus being the son of God.

Collective Effervescence. I have not heard this term before, but thank you for introducing me to it. I knew the feeling, but now I have an actual name for it. I love learning new things.

It's good to carry on. After all it's just dust in the wind.

Disappointing lack of acknowledgement of the extended Kansas joke at the start, so I thought I'd make sure you knew it was appreciated :-)

Last time I was this early Mike Winger was Mike Finner.

I'm pretty sure most mythologies past and present say the universe was created. I also never heard a creation myth that says the Japanese islands were made from the bodies of dead Gods, I only heard that Izanagi and Izanami pulled them out of the bottom of the ocean with their great jade spear, and I could easily see apologists use that to say their creation myth predicted plate tectonics.

"Collective Effervescence" — what a perfectly crafted term. I'm done with Christians I encounter saying they "personally feel God's presence/love/healing/ any other good thing you imagine..." and now I know what that's termed Thank you!

Nice Kansas reference lol

Still awaiting any contemporaneus extrabiblical evidence that the specific Yeshua ben Yosef of Christianity ever actually existed in the first place.

Or the surged major political leader Yosef of Arimathea, upon whose existence the entire nonsensical Empty Tomb narrative entirely relies.

0:12 I saw them live a few weeks ago with Deep Purple. A great time!

On the topic of gender afferming surgeries, teens have been getting nose jobs and breast enlargements with guardian permission for decades. With this in mind, if the people involved are all cool with it, there's no problem. And this is on top of the introspection and strength of feeling required to want that surgery in the first place regardless of age.
