Great to see another video on the MX5 - watching how much your friend was enjoying himself just confirms to me that I must get one! I think yours had just the right exhaust note without sounding over the top. Good point that how/when its been driven has more impact on the condition of an MX5 than miles or age. Think the conventional wisdom would say MX5's that have spent their lives in Scotland tend to suffer more corrosion due to the climate but its not restricted to north of the border! MOT history can be a clue but can't be relied upon - last year my Jag XF passed its MOT with no advisories six months later it needed a new rear sub frame!

I own a 2008 MX5, with the retractable hard top. I also own a 1995 BMW M3. They are both great cars, real drivers cars with good handling characteristics and feel. But the MX5 is the most fun driving car I have ever owned.

Key modifications for my MX5 include larger wheels (17x8" Enkei PF01) with 235/40R17 tires, and MeisterR CRD coilovers. This combination really transformed the handling. I also added a catless Goodwin Racing Max Power 1.8" exhaust header, as well as their helmholz midpipe and SuperQ muffler. The power increase is really noticeable and the exhaust note is great. The midpipe has a helmholz chamber that significantly reduces the drone frequencies between 2500-3000 rpms. Without that drone, the engine makes an exotic sound like a large displacement sport bike.

This is why the MX5 is so popular, it's just fun and makes you smile.

I've got a 2011 Sports black edition in spirited Green (bright green) which I've also fitted the Cobra cat back and absolutely love it. This year I have plans to fit ITBs to add even more theatre to the whole experience.

MX5 hits different to higher power saloons - more of an aquired taste but I think in the long run - more satisfying.

Heh, I think they forgot about few cars... "M2" is not the only one RWD with manual. You can at least get GT/GR86 (and whatever alternate names they have 😁) or Supra, thinking about some other BMWs and that's the base if we are looking on relatively new cars. Old cars are there too, but the availability of good ones is very little (like S2000, MRS).

I have a 90 Miata and love it. I did own four BMWs at one point, but the cost of maintaining them and the lack of durability takes away all the fun of driving them. Recent models are also too big and heavy. BMW hydraulic steering was class leading, however; the electric steering is awful. I am wondering how the electric steering is in the ND. In the NA I always notice the power draw of the AC unit, but never the steering. I am glad manufacturers like Lotus kept hydraulic steering in the Emira. The feel and handling characteristics of hydraulic steering is so much better.

If you sell it, you will regret it. I also own a nc2 mx5, 2011 with cobra rear box. Going to bbr soon for their 200 kit. Very exciting... john in the uk 🇬🇧
