Scotty using the mouse as a microphone will never not be funny.

There is a villain in this movie, human ignorance.

After all these years,  my brother and I still quote "hello computer?" at each other.

Everybody in the theater cheered when Spock neck pinched the punk rocker with the boom box on the bus.  (6:37)

The film has so much heart and is a testimony to Leonard Nimoy’s humanity

This is probably the most 80s Star Trek movie. Not just the setting, but the overall vibe. It feels like a movie I'd watch alongside E.T., The Goonies, or Explorers. It's definitely turned into my favorite of the bunch.

The humor still holds up, like a fine wine IMO. I did not know about the whale props, thanks for the wonderful movie fact!!!

Still gets how emotionally impactful that simply line of "I feel, fine" from Spock actually was.

The humans on the whaling boat were the villain lol

Good Star Trek doesn't use overused tropes like heroes and villains.  For instance in the classic "The Devil in the Dark" at first it seems like Captain Kirk vs Space Monster but in the end we find the Horta was trying to protect its young and Kirk had to admit he was wrong.  ST4 was classic Trek at its best as in the end the problem was miscommunication between two alien species.

This Trek was for EVERYBODY. Not just the fans, but for the general movie going audience who didn't need smartened up with all the lore to appreciate and enjoy the well written and well told story. Even my mom, who had never watched an episode of Star Trek in her life, thought this was just the best thing ever. THAT'S why it made so much bank at the box office, because EVERYBODY went to this.

It is amazing what can be accomplished in a movie without violence and vulgarity and thats what I find so appealing about movies like this and i consider these the most rewatchable. Oh correction on the vulgarity because I remembered "double dumb *ss on you!" Hehe

5:39 We can call this the "Richard Pryor Superman III Effect".

Hell, I still refer to Bones' lines in the hospital scene a fair bit when I get to griping about the limits of modern medicine.

THIS was our family movie classic. When anyone would ask, lets watch a trek movie, the reply to which one, would almost always be: "The Whale one!"

This is by far my most rewatched Trek of any era. Too often, movies forget to be fun 😎🍹🌴

"Time After Time" is awesome! Plus, you can't beat David Warner in bell-bottoms. 😊

My favorite Trek film!  Those special effects are spectacular, and definitely deserved at least an Oscar nomination.  The humor is tailored to the characters and is never done at their expense (unlike the following film), and has all the charm you’d expect from this cast.  Beautiful character development from Spock, sparkling chemistry with Kirk & Gillian, and a lovely ending!  It doesn’t get more perfect than this!  I even own the Director’s Series Laserdisc with a special introduction featurette from Nimoy.  The film’s success also gave Nimoy the chance to direct the $240M hit of 1988 - Three Men and a Baby.

7:33 Nuclear Wessels?

The Voyage Home broke Star Trek rules more than The Final Frontier did
