Everyone remembers the attempt to manufacture the "Big-lipped Alligator Moment" meme, but does anyone remember their even lamer meme "fry the Coke?"

Her comment on The Little Mermaid disregards a LOT of tight writing choices that make Ariel’s decisions way more believable in context. Like having the eels show up RIGHT after Triton’s rampage in the cave crushed her heart. She’s a teenager, and some situations seem far more hopeless when you’re young. Seeing a way out and towards what you want, it’s easy to rush at that opportunity like a bull at a red flag.

We have come full circle. The internet ouroboros has arrived. A video essay about the origin of video essays.

If Nostalgia Chick is getting an hour and half long video how long is the Spoony one going to be, dear God.

Dylan watches the Nostalgia chick so I don’t have too.

I swear like half of The Chick's jokes are like;

"I set up the punchline by talking in a hopeful voice about why something is good...then I switch to the deadpan voice about why this thing is bad"

"Sewer dweller levels of shit takes" must be one of your best lines ever.

her solo content as Lindsay Ellis is really good and I think it's fair to say TGWTG was holding her back

The Nostalgia Chick search ad....those really were different times huh.....

The main thing I got from this video is that Dylan really loves The Last Unicorn.

I think for Goggles statement about the obvious for the Sailor Moon clip was because it's in Japanese she can't understand it. Unfortunately the clip she showed had subtitles.

Anastasia was also HEAVILY advertised as a fairytale back in the day over any claim of it being a historical piece if I remember right. I dunno, I was still a kid when Anastasia came out so that aspect is a little fuzzy. Rasputin’s eye popping out was an excellent introduction to dark humor, though. Childhood classic

Oh hell yeah. Dylan’s about to take on the woman who destroyed an entire generation’s perception of All Dogs Go To Heaven by creating The Big Lipped Alligator Moment meme.

she certainly left her mark on the web with creating a genre of internet content in the form Youtube essays

I can attest that not only does the 80s Transformers movie have stunning animation, but also a pumping soundtrack and some premium 80s action cheese. It’s also an example of that era’s gritty sci-fi look really  gelling spectacularly with robot stories, something shared with one of my favorite movies, The Terminator

It is now today that I learned Krissy Diggs is currently a successful artist living in Japan.

27:35  Lindsay is the real life version those teen movies where taking off glasses and taking hair out of a ponytail is all that is needed for a makeover.

I didn't quite find Nostalgia Chick's content to be as funny or entertaining as the critic's was. However, I think this was a pretty fascinating and brief lookover of her stuff and I'm really interested to see what comes next for this series.

If there’s one thing I have to thank Lindsay as The Chick for – only one thing – it was finally sparking my interest in animation history through the little series of reviews she did of a few 30s/40s shorts. Minnie the Moocher, Red Hot Riding Hood, Coal Black… these opened up an entirely new branch of a subject I already had a fairly vested interest in. Like I would never have known about how deep the Fleischers’ juxtaposition to Disney was, or what the Censored Eleven was, or basically how LA studio culture became a giant ouroboros without this mini series. She did a lot of work I came to enjoy over the years, but this was by far the most impactful, and videos I still view with a lot of gratitude.

Tbf I think BrowsHeldHigh and JesuOtaku were also sort of pushing towards this Proto-video essay thing also.
