"The assignment was 5 minutes. Doug asked the teacher if he could make it 10 minutes. It ends up being 15 minutes."
That's such a perfect summation of Doug, both as a person and of his body of work.

On the first day, God said…
“Hello, I’m the Nostalgia Critic. I remember it so you don’t have to.”

Fun fact: I went to school with Doug Walker at NIU. I also knew him when he was a janitor at the car manufacturing facility. He was legit a super nice dude and extremely weird. Always thought he had some learning disability…until I heard about him again from being the Nostalgia Critic. lol

My favorite thing about his Lola Rabbit rant is that Doug is in Chicago, the city with the world's largest furry con

It's weird that the short film Doug considered to be his worst and most pretentious project actually showcased some experimentation and creativity. Who knows what would have happened if he followed the instinct which produced that.

"All my cartoon characters are fuckin narcs!" was one of maybe 3 times DW made me laugh unironically

The four guys not knowing how to tie a tie and asking April to do it is my favorite thing, I forgot about that.

There are three phases in ever Nostalgia Critics fans life
Phase 1 "Doug is so cool I wanna be like him when I get older"
Phase 2 "Hes so cringe and dorky I hate him"
Phase 3 "Hes a really chull akward guy who makes stuff that makes him happy and I hope he continues what he does."

In recent times, I’ve become SUPER nostalgic about Doug Walker’s early reviews. I remember starting to watch Nostalgia Critic when I stared high school around the middle of season 5 and just fell down the rabbit hole.

"A big lack of research moment" should become a thing lol

it is interesting that in another timeline that ThatGuyWithTheGlasses website could've been a viable rival to Youtube.

James including Captain S on the skit, shows good character, makes me respect him a bunch

I will always have a ton of respect for a man who broke out of corporate shackels and started an online venture, especially because when Doug did it the idea of making money online was pretty far fetched.

The fact that like 20 years later he still gets 6 figure views is very impressive as well. Most Youtubers from that time are gone, or getting a fraction of the views.

Say what you want about the channel, NC is responsible for me getting broadly interested in film criticism and introducing me to many great classic films I had never heard of, including some which would influence me to go to school for Animation. He also propelled the careers of some of my favorite YouTubers, like Lindsey Ellis and Todd in the Shadows. No matter how cringe it may seem today, I have a lot to thank the NC for.

"Have you seen The Good the Bad and the Ugly?"

"Parts of it."

It's always funny to be reminded that James doesn't care that much about games, and Doug's not that much of a film buff.

The NC/AVGN fight and its BTS footage is something I wish I'd been able to experience in real time. It was ultimately so wholesome even by today's standards and them trying to be each other was the best frosting on the cake anyone could ask for.

"Shut the door! Were you raised in a barn?!"

I'm sorry dude, I had to skip through the "Melvin, brother of the Joker" section. I could literally feel my soul dying inside the longer it went on.

Out of all of the Channel Awesome Retrospective videos I've seen from other people, this is the first one to perfectly capture that feeling you got when you were a kid watching this dude grow to what he is today, I actually forgot what that felt like. And let me tell you, as someone who remembers when that big fight video came out, that feeling of "who the fuck are these people?" was prevalent even back then, and was even more prevalent when Kickassia came out.
