Raymond (the green man) - My older cousins told me they used to drive the backroads of Ellwood City/Beaver Falls once a week just to find him and bring him cigarettes and cheap beer. They’d stop, crack open a cold one, swap stories, and spend some time with him. They always said he was one of the nicest guys they’d ever met! His legacy deserves to be shared in a positive light💛

Simon, there are no alligators in the sewers of New York. However there is this band of unnaturally large turtles that are teenagers and know martial arts.

There's the "Night Walker" of West Yorkshire. This actually is not just true but quite wholesome too. In the 80's and 90's there were reports of a person walking in the depths of the night. If anyone came across them, they were cordial, but covered the bottom of their face, and obviously wanted to be on their way as quickly as possible. The police and other authorities didn't bother them, as they were quiet and seemed to be harmless. Finally, a policemam befriended the night walker, and discovered the truth. The guy was a pleasant, mild mannered soul with a slight facial disfigurement. Although he lived an otherwise normal life, he had a dislike of being pestered about his disfigurement whilst out and about, so he wouldn't take personal exercise - in his case, walking - in the daytime. The policeman (and others, eventually) bonded together to help him be less uptight about his disfigurement, and the Night Walker just became the Walker.😊

In my hometown, there is a folk tale that if you listen closely at night, you can hear distant singing and revelry. Should you follow the music, they say, you’ll be whisked away to a place where time has no meaning, filled with dazzling lights, ceaseless noise, and flowing drink.

By morning, you’ll wake in your own bed, safe and sound, but noticeably poorer than you were the night before.

The story claims that pixies lure in unsuspecting travellers and empty their pockets, though I suspect the rows of casinos may have something to do with it.

I always figured the Polybius legend of people being completely hooked on playing the games and experiencing headaches/night terrors was because it was the 80s and the first time video game addiction was really possible, and there would have been plenty of people back then who didn't yet know they had photosensitive epilepsy and the games were the first time they'd been exposed to an epilepsy trigger.

There's an ancient Seminole legend of a 50 foot alligator spirit that inhabits the Everglades, and I had to do a project on it for school. I explained it to my family and to this day they accuse me of believing in a 50 foot alligator that lives in the Florida Everglades. I still cannot convince them that it was just an old legend, but they continue to tease me. I am not bitter. I am not bitter. I am bitter.

20:25 One of the saddest stories about Raymond was when he was allegedly beat up by a group of young men, and had to call for help by going door to door but people were too terrified to help him.

What about the legend of Simon Baldman? The man who fills everyone's head with histroical knowledge in the late hours of the night as they prepare to dose off while watching YouTube.

Okay but have you heard about the giant penguin hoax of florida? a man wore 30-pound lead shoes shaped like penguin feet and stomped around florida beaches for 10 like years. took another 40 for him to reveal the whole thing

I have a friend who got 3rd degree burns over 99% of his body when he was a baby. Obviously a miracle he survived. He too has an amazing upbeat personality and approach to life. Thankfully, he didn't lose his eyesight and is an amazing artist, even though he doesn't really have fingers. I wish he could have met Raymond.

Well we had an “urban legend” where I lived as a kid which turned out to be true, and that was “hooky’s lane” a small dark lane where if you knocked a wooden door a “murderer” with a hook for a hand would run after you! Very scary right? Well it happened to me but after a lady come out of a near by house (after I had run away from old hooky) she shouted “shame on you kids” and went to complain to my friend Timmy’s mother who she knew! Turns out Hooky was her brother who lost a hand in the Korean War and had “shell shock” what we today would call ptsd, and had recently had a stroke leaving him unable to speak properly. He lived in the converted garage at the back of his sister and her husband’s house as he liked his own company and us kids knocking his door all the time sent him up the wall. I look back now and think how sad it was and what we must have seemed like to this poor man who just wanted peace and quiet. Turns out the real monsters were indeed us!

Hearing about some of these from the perspective of a disabled person (Ex: Raymond, AKA Charlie No-Face) has been genuinely fascinating and depressing at the same time. The guy was just a guy and who could only go out at night without judgement and didn't know if he could trust people because of the stigma around his appearance.

My grandfather once told me our tribe had a saying; "history forgets, but the land remembers". I was like 6 or 7 at the time so the meaning flew right over my head, but he dumbed it down for me. Basically, all these urban legends or tales of specters are what happens when we forget our role in the life cycle. It's both a punishment and a reminder. We are supposed to be stewards of the land, not the defilers we have since become. My grandpa taught me a lot about life when I was little and still too young to appreciate it, but I get it now. Everything has its place and everyone has their role to play in the cycle of life.

no way you said "dumping a load into a manhole"

I've heard the version of the Slit Mouthed Woman where you can just answer "meh, you're okay," which apparently confuses her long enough where you can run away.

If witnesses didn't get a close enough look to see that the creature was a camel, the weird rider may have been the camel's hump. 🐪

The sunken house has got to be the coolest story I have heard in a while.

The scariest urban legend? Affordable housing. I wish this was true

pittsburgh having "rolling green hills" is a huge understatement, we literally have the steepest road in the whole country 😂

As far as the Bunnyman goes, I believe the story can be summed up with the saying, “hippity-hoppity, get off my property” 😂
