“It’s kind of cool though” - Dialko, in court after committing an act of arson

he is foggy for an AMAZING reason!!!

One way the mod could be improved is by having periods where Herobrine doesn't appear, which would make every appearance a surprise

An actual horror mod that has restraint and doesn’t just say “I am hungry and want to kill you with my blood eyes”

Pairs well with silent hill music too :) great work and nice taste in horror

Powder Snow makes me want to destroy the ozone layer with aerosol spray.

It is a great shame that this mod wasn't made for 1.7.10, the true mod paradise.

I actually love ‘from the fog’ for the weird reason that it makes me feel LESS creeped out. Like yes, there’s something haunting me, but I KNOW it’s haunting me, and honestly he’s pretty chill most of the time.

16:55 Another Minecraft spooky/horror guy, Daiazal, makes a really good point about this. He says that so many horror mods want to make your entire experience about themselves, so they harass you constantly to the point they become a nuisance instead of a spooky presence. Dejojotheawsome says something similar to the effect of how it bothers him that when you're playing horror mods, you're not really playing Minecraft, you're playing a horror experience that happens to run IN Minecraft.

I think Herobrine encapsulates the early internet era of not quite knowing what was in a game. He's horror, but less of the "raaaaa I'm gonna getcha" and more "if he exists, what else is in this game that hasn't been found yet". At his best, he's very similar to "The Last Beta Player": an unexplained phenomena with dubious/unclear motivation.

From what you showed off, the mod handles it perfectly. He's there, doing his own thing. Not hunting you down (ala Cave Dweller), just observing or screwing around with you.

i played this mod alongside a modpack that tried to copy beta minecraft in a modern version (by changing the graphics, changing the worldgen, disabling features, enabling old features etc), some retro horror shader that lowered the game's quality, and a resourcepack that changed the game's music to slowed down versions. its hard to describe the feeling it gave me.

i once went down on a mining trip and as soon as i stepped out of the mine i was struck by lightning and my house was on fire. on that same world he would often leave me weird signs.

havent finished the video so im not sure if you saw this yet, but if you have tamed dogs, they will growl and whine whenever herobrine is present, even when hes not visible :)

i recommend playing this mod alongside other subtle mods like "server-side horror", since they basically just add sounds and weird structures. its all so subtle and simple that its hard to tell which mod is doing it, which i think enhances the whole experience.

Impromptu contemporary Minecraft review

When you were describing herobrine appearing too often and it would be better to see his impact on the world more often than you see him directly, I was thinking... Seeing herobrine shouldn't feel like something that was meant to happen, something that you're expecting. It should feel like something you weren't supposed to see, like you caught him manipulating your world in the one moment he wasn't paying attention

I do like the idea of "Giving HIM control", and it's cool that torches can disappear, but I would personally draw the line at the mod griefing you by burning your house down. That sorta ruins the fun and just limits you from building with things that can burn

I'm not even a huge Minecraft guy but this is one of my favorite channels on the site and has been for months. Just lowkey, relaxing, sometimes spooky, and talking about a game from my childhood. Thanks for what you do Dialko

Refresh Mythic loot

I've always loved the original story, especially with how Herobrine is never really implied to be evil, the worst thing he does is just delete the writer's forum post and tells him to stop.

the concept of you building crosses to ward herobrine off as a kid is so cute lmfao ;-;

from the fog, for me, is so fun because i don't feel alone. herobrine doesnt scare me very often - he's more of like a buddy to me, when i play the mod - but when he does, it's extra creative. my favorite scares are the ones where he stands behind a door and then slowly walks to the side, disappearing from view. when you look to where he went, he's gone.

I agree with the commentary about modern minecraft.
I think one way to bring back that isolated feeling a little bit might be to add a "civilization" map to world gen, and structures only generate when the value is high, and its at such a large scale that you'll generally either find yourself in a massive and empty region or a populated pocket. Fog definitely needs to be fixed though. I almost always add the Sodium Extras mod with that purpose explicitly in mind.

Halfway through the video i completely forgot this was even about Herobrine. I was just listening to your thoughts and experience with modern minecraft at that point
