Part 2 of the Owen Rogers Pizzazz wing construction series - Sheeting and joining the foam core halves. (Note - the video is long and boring, so feel free to watch it at 2x speed and pause for the useful bits)
Part 1 is here: Owen Rogers' Foam Cutting Method
This is a method Owen has been using in recent years, which he described to me late last year and I have adapted to suit my needs and facilities. It works extremely well and has some clear advantages over traditional methods:
1. 50mm S-Grade insulation foam is easy to get.
2. Half-templates and a flat centre line ensure perfect symmetry.
3. It's much easier to cut the internal cavities.
4. You don't need a thick leading or trailing edge strip, so it's lighter and there's no carving the LE to shape.
5. If you mess up one side it's half as bad as messing up a full 1-piece core.
6. Sheeting the core with balsa is super easy.
The extra centre-line gluing process does add a bit of weight and time, but not as much as the process saves in other ways. The "Kept Foam" strip ribs are much more time consuming by comparison. Adapt as you see fit.
Part 3 - Fitting the bellcrank, tips, TE and joining the wings is next to come.
