It’s ridiculous that people don’t clean their things; I was at a doctor’s appointment at a big hospital, and I swear there was a hair right where they wanted me to press my forehead. I told them, "There’s a hair there—please clean it, because it’s gross."
After going to nail school and learning proper hygiene, I realized that SO MANY salons I've been to in the past have really unsanitary, lazy practices 🤢Even the ones that look fancy and clean on the outside. My nail instructor told me about a client who had a toe amputated after getting a severe infection from a dirty pedicure!!
After someone who was close to me got a foot fungus from a nail salon which caused her toenails to never grow properly again I stopped getting my nails done at the nail salon and started doing my own nails at home. I haven't been in a nail salon since 2010 and I have no plans on ever going back.
3:25 this lady is so right! And those supplies are very affordable. VERY, and that’s at a small scale that I buy for myself. Imagine how much cheaper they are with the volume these salons buy them.
As a black nail tech working at an Asian I tell clients to wash hands first and so do I , I make sure table has been sanitized and I place a towel down and my manicure paper towel I use pink or purple ones by choice I use a new file and buffer and when it comes to pedi we use liners in the tub and have to clean the bowel after use because we bust the bag and the dirty water goes down the drain so still clean the bowel our salon is a site to see and customers get free snacks and drinks we also have to take the jet out and apart and clean after each customer and pedi slippers definitely go in the trash just like toe separators and files but I know salons don’t always do but ours don’t play because it is a million dollar franchise but they are right check for those things because it is very dangerous if you don’t practice proper sanitation and use of tools and products ❤
4:20 she is absolutely right, on everything she stated! After each client I break and throw the files, toe separators, everything thats disposable I trash. My tools, I clean, put in the disinfectant, dry bed then put in sanitizer bags and put in the autoclave to sanitize. I have color changing bags so you know they are sanitized. For yrs I’ve told ppl about those pedi chairs. They supposed to actually let it sit for 20 mins total. These shops out here only look at you like a $$$$$$.
With the First Lady, talking about the tools in the nasty stuff that can happen at a nail salon, I am so glad I do my own nails at home. I haven’t remembered how someone told me when she went to get her nail dip done, they take the pot of the dip powder and put it back to reuse. And he thought they would’ve just kept it in the file or just pour out the powder to be used, but they have everybody dip their fingers into the same pot powder.
This is a common problem, I just quit my job at a salon after working there a week. The hygiene was atrocious, there was no way I could work there knowing what I know already.
I’m so glad these salons are getting called out. I can’t stand those mean rude workers. They don’t give a damn about safety and health. They do not change those bands. They will cut you with them and still don’t change it. This is why I do my own nails now after over 20 years of going to salons.
As a new-be licensed nail tech in CA who worked at a few “traditional” nail salons and quit each time they ignored my complaints- Ive learned the following : 1) paraffin wax is always recycled and rarely discarded 2) water jets are rarely disinfected 3) files are rarely replaced after ever use 4) half the staff are unlicensed 5) ingrown removal is commonly preformed 6) fungal infections are always overlooked 7) and the most disgusting of them all…they never use barbercide!!!!
