I was almost called brain after him, let's say my mam wasn't just impressed with his footballing ability, the old housewives favourite, but although it would have been a good story thankfully the old man named me something else....perhaps a hint of jealousy 😂 she was that bad. Used to hold me up and call me the next brian Robson embarrassingly.
He still showed glimpses of greatness even in his final seasons at united, I wish I'd seen him from our ST in stretty when he was in his pomp, luckily I got a bit more exposure to sparky (criminally underrated when people talk about United greats) but I can say I saw Robbo lift the league (brucey insisted he joined him even tho he wasn't captain any more) on an emotional night at old Trafford with grizzly old blokes in tears of joy after waiting so long. Little did I know I won the birth lottery when it came to football and we just kept on winning and winning.
Until fergie stepped down of course and the old man said to me as we gave him his send off "now you'll know what it's like to be a real football fan" I wish he never fucking said it the jinx.
Robbo was the 80s through and through but if we could get a player of that talent and standard now that'd be a huge help in breaking this lean spell we've had for 13 years that's for sure.
