After this video (and the follow-up one about playing with no pain) I tried this idea of holding the bass without your hands on the last jam session and last couple of practice sessions and I was astonished - I didn't feel pain, I didn't feel tired and my palms didn't feel like I was doing pull-ups. Thank you!
One question about the thumb position: once I feel comfortable enough to hold the bass upright without supporting it with my hands, I try to lay may fingers on the fingerboard in the thumb position that ruins the whole balance I achieved with my belly and my left knee. So how do I compensate the pressure from the left hand while playing? Push a bit harder with the left knee? Use the elbow or a shoulder a little bit?
