This is probably the most helpful jazz bass solo videos I've seen. Expanding these rhythm concepts to explore note choices a bit more would also be great. Thanks as always.

That's incredibly helpful!

Thanks. your lessons are excellent always!

Very useful, thank you so much

Thank you so much for this! Please make more clips on soloing approach for beginners and intermediates!

When i finally figured out that i need to actually listen to some chord progressions while practicing soloing (even some rudimentary ones i scratch record myself), lessons such as these became much more productive for me.

Great lesson! Thank you a lot. There is so so small attention to swing eigths feel in jazz videos online or even in books though its a framework of swing jazz rhythm for all instruments.

As someone coming from electric bass this is a really interesting way to think about jazz soloing! When I take away the familiarity of frets I find myself either playing like your first example (on the downbeat of a new chord) or just doing my best Mingus impression lol. This intentionality with phrasing is something I'm striving to get better with, thanks for the lesson Matt!

Good stuff. It’s always in those nice long spaces the piano player starts annoyingly playing licks. Thank Chick for that, lol.

When I am not familiar with a set of changes and not fully with it I default to playing on downbeats and with chord changes as in your first example 😅
