I have to say, I'm absolutely blown away by the generosity of spirit behind putting this amount of effort and information into this video series.
I also appreciate (and think it's important for people to see) that, even after completing hundreds of commissioned portraits, and doing many live demonstrations, you were so self-effacing and self-disclosing enough to confess some level of uncertainty and insecurity in preparation for this livestream.
People seem to think there's some mysterious thing, such as 'talent' in creating a finished painting. But I often tell people that my "talent" (to the extent that I have any) is that I am relentless and am willing to fail (repeatedly) in order to get where I need to go.
So, on behalf of the entire YouTube community, thankUmuchly.

That was amazing to watch. And having you explain your process and reasoning for starting on the values and colours you did stopped my headache in the way I try to paint. Can't wait to begin my Evolve artist journey in the New Year. Many thanks 🎉

It was very considerate of you, sir, to record yourself painting a high-level commission. And you explained your whole thought process while painting. Just brilliant! Really am just very grateful that you did this. I want to start learning painting too! Little busy right now but definitely leaning towards Evolve in the future. Best regards.

Man I was watching this and I was just like everyone else. "WHAT is he doing wiping out the face???" lol, but I repaint faces all the time lol.

What tips or advice would you have for someone who wants to move away from doing underpaintings in grisaille?

@kevinaustin0369 5 years ago

I am curious about why the first pass “under pinning” for the gold color hanging off the left side of the red book was done in the brownish color but not for any of the other gold?

I have recently heard that the acrylic underpainting is starting to show that it is not aging as well as we were taught 30 years ago Have you heard anything about this.
