Am I the only that think Diego should had been the protagonist with him slowly losing his innocence and slowly becoming his father if not more ruthless as him or rejecting his father's ways acting similarly to the relationship between Ajay and pagan min from Far cry 4.

It's sad. Her story seems like a pretty easy one to write. She buys into the revolution as a child, joins them as a teenager, and we fill her shoes as an adult, with some fighting experience, but not too much as we need to justify the RPG mechanics. She kills in the name of the revolution, enjoys it even. She's a fanatic. The game may allow you to murder civilians. Then, she loses one of her comrades, with whom she was close, then another, then another. The revolution is then crushed, but she survives, so she hardens her heart and decides that she's going to get revenge, not fight the revolution. The drug trips, instead of being a way to tell the protagonist that they were wrong, keep her justifying everything she does, drudging up memories of her friends, their spirits demanding more and more blood so they can rest, when in reality, she is the only one who cannot rest. If you only played for the story, I would make it to where you wouldn't even meet the dictator. That would be reserved for the end game, when you have cleared every outpost and have a straight line to him. It may even have multiple endings, depending on how much of your humanity you have retained by helping civilians and not killing them, even the ones that shoot at you.

One thing they couldve done to give her character more of that "losing yourself in the killing" personality would've been giving her different takedowns for early in the game. The machete takedowns in the game are absolutely brutal and creative, but they're way too insane early in the game to feel right.

I remember sneaking up to my very first enemies in the game and doing a stealth takedown and literally gasping at how brutal it was. The takedowns are insane.

They could've given her slower, but less brutal takedowns early on that show that she was just surviving and trying to fight the war but then given her the base game takedowns somewhere down the line to show just how brutal she was becoming and how much she was enjoying the killing.

1st person cutscenes helps a lot too

I hate how in Far cry 5 you are captured by every single one of the antagonists and you aways escape 5 minutes after that

Yeah, also 3rd person cutscenes are a huge immersion breaking for me especially in far cry games , nothing really felt personal except combat, for a serious story it's too cheesy, too goofy at times. But even combat, right, you can just , once your ammo runs out , pull out a different gun type and keep on shooting, which is just not immersive at all and too casual. Another big thing is progression - Far Cry series has always been a story, atleast for me, of personal development, you get stronger the more you fight , but they took it away and the only progression that was left is through buying new, stronger weapons, or better gear, while i don't think that it is really that bad because after many hours of (and even trying to 100% atleast gameplay aspects and not collectible aspect) i've come to terms with gear for perks , still would choose skill trees over gear upgrades personally. It also felt like there was not a lot of things to do for such a big game, most of my playthrough i was just destroying fnd bases, roadblocks, slthough a lot more side quests and loot hunts like in far cry 5. I wanted more of some gameplay variety akin to far cry 4 with its different side quests you get after liberating an outpost. While i said that, it might seem i hate far cry 6, but no actually , i enjoyed my time playing it, but if you compare it to previous installments you would be disappointed. Just treat it like an open world shooter with far cry-esque gameplay, which is to me is really rare to find, a game that scratches that far cry itch.

I feel like after 3 every game has to have this meta commentary about it being an FPS.

Far Cry 4, De Pleur says to Ajay: “You don’t care about Noore or her kid. What were their names? Do you even know? The truth is that you’re good at killing. I’m good at enhanced interrogation, while you’re good at good old fashioned slaughter!”

Far Cry 5’s infamous “Not every problem can be solved with a bullet.” And Joseph telling you that people have died and it’s your fault.

And now 6: “You don’t care about Libertad or Castillo you just like shooting guns.”
Sometimes It feels like lampshading to cover up their lazy writing. Or maybe that’s just me. Probably is, but it’s something I’ve noticed.

Either way, it’s getting tiresome to be told you’re the real scumbag for wanting to play the game.

Far cry 6 does have an interesting narative but its stuck in the past. If you read the history of the legends of 67 you find out about the legendary guerilla fighter Lobo who was praised as a hero who died fighting for freedom. You eventually find out that El tigre killed Lobo because he was becoming too fanatical and violent, he would argue with Lucky mama about prisoners of war wether to kill them or set them free, he eventually killed the prisoners because they were enemies. The resistance was led by Santois Espinosa was their former teacher who rebeled the father of Castillo, he is the reason why all trade routes and the declining relations with other nations. The story could focus on you being Lobo and choosing if the fight will consume you or you'll keep your humanity.

100% was agree, Jason is one of the best written game protagonists ever and I've thought so for a long long time

Great analysis, as usual!  After each of your posts, I go rewatch your FC2 deep dive.

If you decide to do anymore Far Cry 2 content, I'll eat it up like candy!

I like how Jason personality actually start changes yeah he start as spoiled guy then he slowly start lose he’s humanity and start to enjoy the violence and the killing I like how you can see he’s character development

I didn't know Far cry 3 got backlash for its protagonist. I hope the people that whined about this were happy getting a nothing character in FC4 and a silent protagonist in FC5.

When I played Farcry 3 on release, I was probably in the 3rd grade or something. Even at that age I appreciated the writing of the game. Even at that age I was able to notice how Jason changed as the game progressed and was surprised by the twist. I also got attached to the characters like Sam and even Vaas. I don’t remember hearing about hate for Jason but I also didn’t really watch reviews either

Dani is such an overcorrection from The Deputy and The Captain that it's kind of comedic. Dani never shuts up, sings along to radio songs (I kinda like that, TBH), comments on every little thing, and you constantly see Dani during the thirdperson cutscenes (Why do those exist?) and in the thirdperson "social hub" areas. (Again, why?) Ubisoft really wants you to see and hear Dani as much as possible.

I wonder what direction they'll take 7's protagonist in? Will they double down on the Dani direction? Will they go back to silence like The Deputy and The Captain? Or will they go the middle of the road like Ajay and make them very boring? One thing's for certain; we'll probably never get another protagonist like Jason.

The farcry 6 giant backpack looks and seems stupid.

dang you give her a squad

The deputy has more personality then Danni

Dafuq is up with bullying this guy in the comments? Is there a controversy ı don't know or smth.

I know this will sound like boomer talk but seriously I kinda miss the single lane way of handling video game stories that far cry 3 had, amongst some other games from that time

just having this wide open world to yourself with tons of side activities, but you never forget your true objective of progressing the story because your minimap always has that yellow next mission waypoint, so you can always easily resume the story by following it

simplicity is not always the best way to handle things but i feel that having one main mission at a time just allows the writers to handle the story in a much better way, without having to account for what the player might have done up to that point in other regions, because for example in FC6 it feels extremely disconnected to know that you basically abolished 4 huge villains in other regions but then you enter another region and you're this guerilla fighter nobody knows about, just doesn't make narrative sense and also takes away from immersion

edit: i wrote this comment before seeing the rest of your video and realized you actually raise this exact point lol
