As a descendent of Barbara Mullen (Janet) I am thrilled beyond words to see this series on YouTube. She was my mother’s first cousin, my grandfather was her Godfather. She looks so much like him, it has brought me to tears. Such a loving, kind look expression. My grandfather emigrated from the Aran Islands to Boston early 1900s. I can still see her when she came to visit us. I was about 5 years old in the late 1950s. She was so glamorous. We never got to see her act. Feels like the circle has been completed somehow. Thank you so much.
Goodness, that takes me back, the family's weekly visit to Tannochbrae, and Dr Cameron and Dr Finlay and some simple but heartwarming stories. Hoping to have a week near Callander shortly, Tannochbrae's real life setting.
Great to see a full episode. “Haud yer tongue, woman, come on!” - Dr Cameron. I’d forgotten how fast he talked. Great cast. The ‘Duty Room’, takes me back.Very like Holmes and Watson, with their housekeeper, or All Creatures Great and Small. Original series was superior. Just watched a This Is Your Life episode with Barbara Mullen, and Eamonn Andrews. She had a fantastic personality.
Fascinating to watch these after many many years. I think the oruction is muddled about the decade haha. It all looks very old world to modern viewers but so far as I understand it is a 1960s production trying to be the 1920s so the cars etc are 1920s but the dress and behaviour looks very very early 1960s to me. I remember the early 60s well and that is how people talked and behaved. I dont think (wasnt there of course) that is how people were in the 1920s I am also struck by how intimate many of the subjects are in a discreet sort of way. Not violent in your face modern style but still not shying away from very intimate subjects.
