Intro music was removed due to copyright, but it slaps.
Hope you enjoy!

Patrick Troughton plays a rather unfortunate character (Gaston) who is cheated on by his wife, his brother gets rid of a person Gaston takes care of.

Very messy situation if you ask me.

I enjoyed watching this, a bit dragging in places, but it all comes together by the end.
Ma boi Gaston was done so wrong #justice4Gaston.

I still regard this as the ultimate interpretation of "Maigret", at least in English. Not only is Rupert Davies perfect in the role but the entire staging seems so authentically French and of the appropriate period. The British have produced a new version of "Maigret" set in the 2020s with an entirely different, modernized version of Maigret but I do not care for it because its' interpretation of Maigret strikes me as nothing even remotely like Maigret as originally written by Georges Simenon.

I love seeing Maigret lose his cool. He's usually has so much sangfroid.

Really good film of Simenon's story. Maigret has a certain thing that is unique to a police detective story. I've only read one other author who writes similar characters with a doggedness into solving cases, that's Fred Vargas (a French author). The book I really love of hers that follows procedures and intricate threads of logic like Simenon is The Three Evangelists. The 3 characters are all historians, not police detectives at all, but one has an uncle who formerly worked as a cop (flic they call it).
I really enjoy Maigret stories because he goes amongst the gritty lives of some questionable people.

Saw Pat Troughton's face so clicked on it - first time seeing any of this highly acclaimed series, though heard mention of it long ago - thank you for uploading. Amazing attention to detail and atmosphere, it oozes quality - great that it all survives. I can see why Simenon himself said of Rupert Davies "At last, I have found the perfect Maigret!"

That bit where he goes up to the bridge is so sad. I can hear dress rehearsal rag playing in my head

I only recently heard about Maigret. I've watched the two other versions and I like them both very much. Now I'll give this one a try

From the USA here, and I really enjoyed this film; bright and witty, and funny too. Love the British! These older movies are the best too. Thank you, for posting these, please continue to post more.

How many people respond to a knock on the door with "I'm coming, I'm coming."?
Only fictional characters as far as I know.

Some people have extremely poor taste and judgement...

Dommage que ce ne soit pas traduit en Français ! Inconditionnelle des séries Britanniques, il m'aurait plu de suivre l'épisode d'une série Britannique de Maigret, que je ne connais pas.
