“Will loves it when we don’t go three hours.” 0:25 Double checks video time. Almost 4 hours. Haha.

can't help but laugh at how the first few words of this vid is 'we can to be efficient with this one' and 'it won't take too long' and the vid length is almost 4 hours hahaha please never change guys

edit: hahahah the edit to the vid length is great

A four hour long video? For me!?!?
(Also I think this is your longest video so far)

I like your idea of her not wanting to kill and him asking her to kill him. Something I would do or add is she cries and does the poem and he dies in her arms, and then she's imprisoned and gets executed. And her spirit is found the young ghost princes and they play together.

The brothers' stories were so intertwined, that I thought her poem could be used to kill Maro instead... but I guess she didn't have the emotion for that.

So this is basically an above-average C-novel that's written directly in English rather than translated from an original Chinese?

You guys are demolishing my TBR, hahaha.

This is so far my favorite book of the year. That ending had me thinking on it for a week before I could rate it. I reread the final chapters multiple times trying make sense of my conflict with the book. I was watching noir films around the same time so that might have played a role in my enjoyment.

As someone who watches cdramas this novel felt pretty much like baby's first cdrama. I was hoping that we'd get a solid reason for not letting women read (this being a fantasy novel) other than misogyny but that never happened. The magic with the royal seal also fell flat, did we get a reason why only males from that line can get that seal. Only 1 line having this magic power was very odd considering historical attitude towards rulers. I felt it was unbelievable that Wei could read all sorts of complicated text within a year. What is more unbelievable that none of the noble ladies with more resources than Wei have never though to do this??? No, all the other girls are only interested in social climbing. Somehow everyone agrees to allow women to study in the end because Wei said so?!?!??

Can't blame anything but tech latency, but the cross-talk was mildly distracting. Regardless, this was a great video and I love how much depth you go into.

this has been on my tbr for a while so i'm looking forward to hearing whether it should stay there 😂

Just started a vid but oh, the cover makes me think this is a China inspired book? This will be interesting

This was an interesting book. Based on what you have said I can understand the ending. Depending on how much bad someone does they can not be redeemed. Lol

Damn interesting analysis/ review of this book.

HANDSOME BOY

he looks so soft omg.

Gun powder!

Commenting for the algorithm because as of about 14 minutes in I have been convinced to buy this book, and don't want to be spoiled so I'll be turning off the video now and want to counteract the negative algorithmic effects of doing so.
Don't worry, I will return when the book has been read! I enjoyed listening to your episode on Three Parts Dead after initially leaving the video to go buy and read the book.

Edited to add: you might want to add a link to the book in the episode description, for those of us who go "ooh! I would like to read this!"

I was debating on picking up this book or not so this review was perfectly timed!
