Val Kilner should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of Doc Holliday.

49:12 Doc always thought he'd, "die with his boots on," and go down in a blaze of glory. Being the kind of guy he is, he found humor in his last moment when he realized he'd go in bare feet.

Wyatt Earp was quoted as saying that Doc Holliday was the most dangerous man he knew.

Anyone familiar with American History will agree this is the MOST ACCURATE PORTRAYAL of the actual events which led up to the Gunfight at the O.K. Corral, and the events which followed. Tombstone Arizona still exists today and can be visited as a Tourist Attraction and a real piece of History.

Wyatt Earp was NOT a Gunslinger. He was a Lawman and quite good with a pistol, but there are many with accuracy and speed who were more famous for gunplay. In his later years Wyatt was an actual consultant for the beginning of the Hollywood Westerns and worked with many of the early stars. Tom Mix was one such actor who was close friends with Wyatt until his death, and he did indeed weep at Wyatt's Funeral.

The gunplay of the MAIN GUNFIGHTERS.....Doc and Ringo....was actually taught to and performed by Michael Bien and Val Kilmer for the film. They both developed their own styles while incorporating the actual movements into their characters. This kept them separate on screen but equally dangerous as viewed by the audience, as well as the real men were seen in real life.

The scene where Doc Holliday says " I have 2 guns, one for each of you. " Is very poignant. Val actually performed the flip reversal with both hands ( one pistol forward and the other in reverse ) and explained why he did it. FIRST it was him doing it in the film so he wanted everyone to know HE DID IT, and SECOND....Doc was VERY WELL KNOWN for acting a lot more drunk than he actually was. He was a rounder and had a high tolerance for alcohol. That flip reversal was Doc's way of saying " I am only as drunk as I want to be " without saying a word. THIS IS DEFINATELY something Doc would have done.

Michael Bien and Val Kilmer had high admiration for each other and talked often BUT ON SET THEY PURPOSELY REMAINED APART UNLESS IN A SCENE. This added to the tension between Ringo and Doc because there were no off screen chats or pleasantries.

The Latin being spoken in the Saloon between Bien and Kilmer is accurate. The subtitles were not added to the film BUT the translation can be found online.

During the main Gunfight scene you can see Doc with a single action pistol FANNING the hammer. This was a common technique for SOME gunfighters. Pistols of the day were SINGLE ACTION...This means for every round fired the trigger resets and the hammer MUST be cocked all the way back to fire the next round. SOME gunfighters would have gunsmiths weaken / adjust their trigger springs so it could be HELD in the rearward position, and THEN the hammer could be fanned with the off hand firing all 6 rounds VERY VERY QUICKLY.  Val actually practiced this technique as well. IT IS NOT EASY TO DO BY ANY MEANS if you are trying to be accurate as well as fast. ONLY THE BEST of Gunfighters were capable of such speed and precision.

Val Kilmer searched for a very long time to find a vocal coach who could actually teach him The Southern Drawl of a Deep South Aristocrat. Finally finding one he practiced religiously to perfect his accent. Doc Holiday was born in the town of Griffin in the State of Georgia. His family was Aristocratic, and he was indeed a learned Dentist. I am born and raised in South Georgia not far from Griffin, and still live in the area today. I can say as a TRUE SOUTHERNER AND GEORGIA NATIVE....VAL NAILED THE ACCENT TO PERFECTION. Never getting an Oscar was a travesty to his abilities.

Having T.B. Doc knew his days were numbered and death was a close friend of his. He never showed fear because there was no point in it. He was feared because he didn't fear death. He died of T.B. in the Sanitorium in bed with his boots off. That was funny to him because he always saw himself going out on his own terms, and in a blaze of glory.

GREAT REACTION and glad you enjoyed the film. :)

Doc looks at his feet because he died with his boots off, against all expectations. Everyone needs a friend like Doc Holiday.

I think Val Kilmer’s “I wasn’t…” after Ringo says “I was just foolin’” is the greatest delivery of a line in cinematic history. He doesn’t smile, doesn’t cock his head, he just delivers it straight and (forgive the pun) deadly serious.

To answer your question, Tombstone is still around. People live there and you can visit the OK Corral, where the shootout took place. Some of the buildings are still standing from that era. They do live reenactments of the shoot-out.

Doc Holliday was actually a qualified dentist, who graduated from dental school back East in Philadelphia.

The scene when Wyatt walks out into the stream and shoots "Curly Bill" is real. When Wyatt got to a safe place have over coat was inspected and they found that I was riddled with bullet holes yet Wyatt didn't get hit once.

“Why Johnny Ringo, you look like somebody just walked over your grave.” So many great lines. 🤠

Obviously, "Huckleberry" is what it is in the Hollywood canon, but for me, "Mah hypocrisy goes only so far." is one of the most self-aware and best encapsulations of any character.

This is a true story.  Some things have been changed.  But for the most part, this is true history.

Lots of people have portrayed Doc Holliday over the years, but Val Kilmer owned the role. He should have won an Oscar for this role!

The gunfight in the creek between Wyatt and Curly Bill was exactly as it occurred.
Love this film.
As we say here in Texas;  Y'all be safe.

"Get the hell out of dodge" is reference to Dodge City Kansas was an infamous wild place to be full of drunk cowboys and mining prospectors. The phrase was usually what the last things most civil people and criminals said as they left town realizing its too much of a crazy place to be. Wyatt became famous for being a fearless lawman in Dodge

Tombstone, Arizona still exists today... It is mainly a tourist attraction but the Birdcage Theater still stands and has a lot of nostalgia inside...

Tombstone was named by its founder because when he went out west his friends said "You'll find your tombstone before you find silver".  He found silver, and founded Tombstone as a snub.

Great movie and surprisingly accurate as far as movies go. A couple of fun facts: Wyatt actually testified on Curly Bill’s behalf at the trial over the shooting of Fred White that it was indeed an accident. Wyatt grabbing an unarmed Ike Clanton and telling him to get away if he isn’t in the fight was actually one of the big factors that got the earps acquitted of murder in the Ok Corral  shooting as it proved that their intentions were not just to go down there and gun down everyone. Also there were actually 5 Earp brothers in tombstone, James and Warren weren’t  involved in the Ok Corral shootout, but Warren did take part in the vendetta ride.

6:57 That's Frank Stallone, younger brother of Sylvester Stallone. He has done a bit of acting, but he's also a musician. He was in Rocky I & II as the leader of the street singers, huddled around a burning barrel for warmth.
