This is what the NBA is missing. The Sonics-Rockets rivalry. You're probably thinking that this was not a rivalry. But it was to both Sonics fans and Rockets fans. Especially when they met in the playoffs. Twice, the Rockets were the defending Western Conference Champs, only to be eliminated both times by the Sonics in 1982 and 1987 (Double OT Classic in Game 6). In 1989, Derrick McKey hit the series-winning alley-lol shot in Game 4 of their first round battle. In 1993 in one of the best playoff series ever, it came down to a Game 7 in Seattle. Sonics won in OT in a classic game. In 1996, the Rockets were the two-time defending World Champions. In the second round that seasons, most assumed it would be another epic classic series. Instead, it became a classic mismatch as the Sonics swept the Rockets in 4 straight enough route to the Finals. In 1997, after five failed attempts, the Rockets finally won a playoff series over the Sonics.

Bring back the Seattle Supersonics.

The Sonics seemed like a new dynasty for 2 years, splitting the finals with the aging but great Washington Bullets. Then Magic came to the league in 1980 and the Sonics fell apart over the next couple of years. Wilkens was a great coach too.

Steve "Snapper" Jones wasn't a bad analyst, but he didn't seem to be a big Calvin Murphy fan. He called him a "good" shooter? Really? One of the best pure shooters in basketball history.

This was a turning point in the Sonics season. Started a run of 14 wins in 18 games to close the regular season. Then they beat the Lakers, Suns and Bullets in the playoffs.

I'm not sure why the broadcaster keeps saying Seattle isn't a running team. Lenny wanted them to run and they could, DJ, Gus, JJ all loved to run the fast break.
